The Show: Balenciaga Fall 2013
The Theme: A Pouf Back in Time
The Color Palette: Black and White
About the Collection: A softened, voluminous Balenciaga of yore was present at Alexander Wang’s design debut, in cuts and nipped tailoring that had an ounce of heritage reminiscence mixed in with a sleek contemporary aesthetic. Although Wang’s much-anticipated arrival came with tremendous buzz and anticipation, it will still take some time for him to get his bearings and prove what he can do for the house, however, I think his soft, respectful landing of the brand signature silhouettes is a great start.

The Show: Hèrmes Fall 2013
The Theme: The French just have that je ne sais quoi
The Color Palette: Camel, navy, putty, white, cobalt, ruby.
About the Collection: Under Christophe Lemaire’s fine tutelage, Hèrmes ready to wear collection channeled a slightly dark, mysterious, yet mesmerizing woman, as inspired by a topic du jour, Alfred Hitchcock, and in particular, his film Rebecca. Perfectly fit, layered and mixed with hard and soft fabrics, Lemaire solidifies the trend here of canvassing the body in fine leather, as well as adding a certain sophistication and elegance to structured, yet softened jackets that allude to menswear in just the slightest way, while nodding toward the future of refined womenswear via pieces that in actuality come across as being very French; they can be worn for decades, to many many occasions, and always appear fresh and chic.
