The Show : Costello Tagliapietra
The Theme: Relaxed Luxury Mixed with Downtown Cool Plaids and Cardigans
The Color Palette: Bright pops of color contrasted with neutral matte tones; Orange, Teal, and Forest Green
The Collection’s Signature, Standout Look: Taking inspiration from their own wardrobe, the design duo translated their personal staples of plaid shirts and cardigans into effortless looks for spring. Encapsulating these soft and fluid designs was a pair of teal satin slouch pants topped with a semi-sheer buttoned plaid shirt dress. When worn separately or paired together, each piece conveyed a sense of ease and lightness that embodied the collection’s low key approach to dressing in ways that would not make the wearer feel constricted in any way.

It’s become quite apparent that the combination of black and white in patterns, stripes, and layering is THE #1 trend to imitate for spring 2014! It shows that designers are thinking outside of the box when it comes to what is ‘seasonally’ appropriate, and that neutrals, generally reserved for the fall/winter season, are making their way into the spring/summer, and it actually feels fresh and contemporary! Below are examples of how three very different designers are interpreting the color combination.

Mara Hoffman used the black and white not as the focal point, but as the frame for her intricate, engineered prints that this season, Hoffman described as embodying the character of a “rainbow warrior princess.”
