Inspired by Virginia Wolf’s essay A Room of Ones Own, Yuna Yang’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection juxtaposes the sophisticated style of a modern city woman and the luxurious fantasy of childhood. The primarily androgynous looks combined aspects of simplicity, luxury and fantasy to create a timeless and classic collection. Yang incorporated delicate laces and silks as well as understated draping and seaming to add feminine flare to her menswear pieces. The asymmetrical hemlines added a youthful aesthetic to her below- the-knee dresses and skirts, which were accented with hand beading to add one-of-a-kind detailing.
To contrast the soft aspects of the collection, Yang chose a color pallet of blues, greens and purples. Perhaps the most notable piece of the collection was the Ariel Beaded tie dress in a rich royal blue silk crepe, the oversized bow around the neck with its hand beading gives detail to the simple silhouette. It was effortlessly styled with a black leather belt and grey tights. Yang’s collection took the audience on a journey through every female’s fashion fantasy, complete with classical and extraordinary elements.

With the goal of enchanting spectators into a world of fantasy and mystery, Yuna Yang’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection was as artistic as it was purely magical. Drawing on Frederico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, Yang crafted her own art, feminine silk and satin garments in shocking colors detailed with signature beading. Suits, dresses, blouses and cropped pants- no style could escape delicate lace, an oversized bow or sparkling crystals. Perhaps the most stand-out piece in the collection was the very last, an all white silk organza gown, the “Zhanna Flower” gown. After seeing an array of blues, lavenders, pinks, and greens, this white dress cleared the canvas allowing spectators to “become one with art,” as Yang had passionately hoped for.

Rachel Antonoff
Rachel Antonoff’s Spring/Summer 2011 Presentation was truly something out of a storybook. Following the life of an adolescent girl through all of the most cherished childhood experiences, the collection was carefree and flirty. In a palette largely made up of pastels, each item was enticingly feminine and doll-like in design. Fun prints, plaids, and fluid silk fabrics were paired beautifully with charming oxfords, creating a wonderfully inspired collection unlike any other!
Yuna Yang
Shaped by the era of the 1960’s housewife, Yuna Yang’s 2011 collection linked the traditionally feminine with the luxurious. Each piece was sophisticated and elegant, yet by no means overdone. The line was made up of classic silhouettes, embellished with eye-catching sequins and black lace. Made in rich chiffons and silks, her showing included detailed draping and playful ruffles in shades of blue, pink, gray, black, and even ivory. This collection truly embodied the spirit of old Hollywood glamour!
