While I’ve never had the guts to go right out and try it, I’ve always envied The Man Repeller’s effortless knack for fearless mixing and matching. Skirts over pants, muscle tees tucked into pencil skirts, plaids with metallics over florals – how does she do it? Luckily, Leandra Medine’s latest style venture is something I can easily jump right into, free from any fear of committing a fashion faux pas. The Man Repeller x Superga collaboration collection boasts a series of TMR-approved kicks, perfect for stomping around the city. From metallic boucle sneakers to velvet high tops (Leandra’s personal favorite), it’s hard not to love these go-with-everything tennies. In fact, I might just have to do something crazy like pair them with a sweater dress or something. Or, you know… something substantially more mix-and-matchy! The Theme: With a Rebel Yell, Punk Lives On
The Color Palette: Black, Pink, Yellow, Red, Blue and White
The Collection’s Signature, Standout Look:The exhibit at The Met may have ended, but punk continues to be an inspiration for designers such as Libertine this season. Drawing on punk’s do-it-yourself credo, there were many pieces from jackets to dresses that showcased bejeweled skull motifs and cheeky phrases scattered throughout the collection. One white coat in particular featured Vivienne Westwood’s iconic punk print of Queen Elizabeth, while a bedazzled white dress sparkled underneath. With bright shades of yellow and pink popping out from the standard black, this collection featured the lighter side of punk, creating a rebellious wardrobe that many will have fun adopting.

Concept Korea is described as a “global fashion project” that is now celebrating it’s eighth season. These shows are supported by the Korean government in order to publicize Korea’s fashion culture to the international market while helping Korean designers gain attention on a more global scale.
This year’s show featured four brands who showcased their unique talents and collections. One collection from Big Park by Park Youn Soo in particular drew inspiration from a folk art image of a phoenix and this colorful motif was stitched on pieces such as jackets, dresses and shorts. Each collection succeeded in getting large rounds of applause from the audience and everyone walked away with a better understanding of what Korea has to offer in the world of design.

Fashion Shenzhen is a platform that showcases leading designers hailing from China’s third largest city, Shenzhen. Presented during New York Fashion Week, the presentation involved installations and pop up boutiques from 15 international designers whose collections ranged from preppy polo looks to evening wear gowns that would be readily adopted into many American closets. Showing in New York helps these designers reach a larger, more international market and as the saying goes, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.

What’s Fashion Week with a party or two thrown into the mix? For the debut of it’s new line of eyewear and to celebrate it’s latest campaign, G-Star Raw hosted a launch party at the High Line Hotel complete with some stellar musical performances. Fronting the campaign was musician Sergio Pizzorno and Russian Marinsky Ballet member Keenan Kampa.
As the party got underway, Pizzorno’s band Kasabian performed their latest songs following an introduction by Kampa. In between sets, guests were able to view the new collection of G-Star Eyewear, that included styles that featured classic aviators, frames with exposed screws and industrial designed pieces. These sharp and sleek shades are perfect for both men and women, and are even more fitting for sun protection with the recent heat wave we’ve been experiencing this week. With this party, G-Star showed it was alright for us to wear our sunglasses at night.
