As fashion week (or rather, month) continues to bounce around the globe, I’m constantly scanning the shows for the coolest accessories to present themselves, and so far, haven’t been let down in the least bit! With London fashion week in full swing, I found some wonderful pieces, largely comprised of footwear and handbags that I thought you’d like to see, as well as a few pieces from New York designers who showed their collections after my last runway accessories wrap-up post.
Although the designers and collections are as varied as they come, the unifying theme is a sense of quirkiness and a bit of a bend toward ’90s fashion. As you’ll see from the Burberry Prorsum runway, some of the apparel trends cited last week have delightfully made their way into accessories (fringe- I’m talking to you!). Enjoy the slideshow above of more great fall 2015 accessories.

I took a bit of a break posting my looks between Day 5 and Day 6 because… I was on a bit of a sensory overload from being in the midst of fashion week, and I’m sure you were too! Despite the chilly temps, all-in-all it was a wonderful time, and I’m already missing the beauty and creativity every where that I looked. Don’t get me wrong: I do love my regular routine and was glad to get back to it, but in retrospect there’s just something so romantic about something being revealed for the first time via an active fashion runway and those immediate, iconic New York cityscapes once you step outside of the venue…

In this look I combined hard and soft elements, texture and volume, streamlined and modern aesthetics. I was very much looking forward to wearing this look ALL week long, holding out for one of the warmer days on which to do so, which basically was when it hit a “comfortable” 30 degrees! Dressing stylishly in the winter is still the ultimate fashion test, and I can report varying degrees of success with it, but the bottom line is warmth and comfort are king!

Pamella Roland’s Fall 2015 collection’s motif was a smoking hot trip to Paris, circa 1970. She credited inspiration from Alicia Drake’s The Beautiful Fall, a journalist’s account of the sumptuous lives of Yves St. Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, as young designers in France living loudly in one of the sexiest decades ever. Models at Roland’s show were sent down the runway in sky-high go-go boots, short hemlines, and sporting big, luscious locks.
For the first time, billowing black pants (opposed to a dress) started the show, followed by evening looks in dark palette with a heavy jacquard chinoiserie theme. For the more casual of looks, a jeweled crewneck sweater and suede miniskirt embodied the rich, earthy, je ne se quoi as one of the favorite looks from the collection. Further styled with caged veil fascinators and smoky eyes, the sensuality and mystery transported us just for a moment to Paris in the 70’s. Now that’s always a good idea.

I hate to leave you in suspense any longer, so let’s cut RIGHT to the chase: here are the
biggest trends to emerge from New York Fashion Week, fall 2015 collections! As you progress through this feature, you’ll find each trend accompanied by corresponding looks, and keep in mind that you
can adapt these for your lifestyle, without the need to fully mimic the highly stylized versions of the trends.
The best way to do it is with an accessory, like a handbag or shoe that represents the trend, then moving onto larger scale items. i.e. garments, when you feel that the trend is right for you. The most important take away from fall/winter 2015 is that the ’70s are back in a MAJOR way. It’s really quite incredible how evident it was across many of the collections this season, and in fact, most of the trends spotted for the season are a take off what was popular during that very decade.
The 70s
Designers Rebecca Minkoff, Reem Acra, and Dennis Basso sited 70s-ish inspiration, be it an icon (Patti Smith; Stevie Nicks); or the overall glamour from the era. There was a fair share of bohemia abounding, looking best and feeling most modern when it was restrained and paired with realistic silhouettes without feeling too costumey and decade-decadent.
