Designing My Custom Handbag with Wink & Winn

Although I tend to take a lot of fashion risks with my wardrobe, I’ve learned that the more paired down and streamlined my every day bag is, the more I will actually use it all of the time. A bag doesn’t have to be boring, and it should be uniquely you, so this is my version of a bag that reflects my personal taste and style now. Courtesy of Wink & Winn, I was able to create a handbag of my choosing, picking the style and size, leather type, color, hardware, and even lining, made just for me in about five weeks. The price varies, based on the shape you select, from $190-$390, and once chosen, you select the leather and details by dragging and dropping them into the circles found on your bag sketch.

I knew that I wanted Saffiano leather, after falling in love with it in 2001 when I saw a Louis Vuitton clutch made of it (see? It left a VERY strong impression on me), but there are dozens of other options to choose from, such as suede, pebbled leather, horsehair, lizardskin, smooth leather, and ostrichgrain. Choosing a color may prove to be tricky, so play around with a few of your favorites, as I did, until you’re satisfied with your combination.  The hardware can also be designated, choosing from gold, silver, or gunmetal options. Choosing the lining was the easiest part, since there were only two options, which I left for the very last, since my brain was working overtime on all of the endless possibilities.

At the end of the day, I went for a gorgeous, monochromatic Saffiano leather bag in white, which really adds some extra oomph to my look without being too loud (see what I wore while touting my new Wink & Winn  large duffle last week). What I also found great about Wink & Winn were the updates I received about the progress of my bag, and even suggestions, such as adding a bit of contrast dark brown. painted to the edges of the handles and exposed leather, which ended up working beautifully with the style and color I selected.
