I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the imbued deeper meaning behind selecting and wearing particular products, taking pause to dwell on the conscious and unconscious sentiments triggered by a certain piece of clothing or even the scent of a familiar fragrance resurfacing in my life. With that in mind, I wanted to explore a “pair it with this” category, in which I featured anything from a fragrance, lipstick, or accessory coupled with the rest of the puzzle – what you would pair with!
Fragrances can invoke a certain mood, personality, time of year, and occasion, so i thought it would be a great way to kick off the segment by connecting the new Clinique Calyx fragrance (priced from$54-$69) with a look that would go in tandem with the fruity floral fragrance. This unique, distinct scent is an effervescent bloom of lightness and a touch of sensuality, thanks to the notes of citrus (mango, grapefruit, mandarin, guava), floral (freesia, rose, jasmine, neroli), and greens(sandalwood, vetiver, oakmoss).
Originally released in 1986 and now brought back into the fold by Clinique, it embodies both classic and modern sensibilities, with a brisk, clean finish. Thinking about this, I envisioned a structured look that didn’t take itself too seriously, hence, I opted to wear/pair the scent with apparel and accessories that do the same thing; classic silhouettes with modern updates, not revealed in the cuts but sexy in its high style quotient.

Taking care of your body is so important to capturing the essence of good skin, however, getting the proper nutrient intake doesn’t have to be boring! As I spoke about recently on the radio show Beauty Inside Out, vitamins supplements can be crucial in fighting inflammation, strengthening and growing hair, nails, and skin, helping with luster, and addressing a myriad of other concerns.

I’ve been taking a bunch of them on a daily basis for several years now, and courtesy of the brand, I tested the Nature Made VitaMelts Hair, Skin & Nails formula, as well as the VitaMelts Multi offering. I had taken Nature Made’s Omega-3 Fish Oil supplements before, and was excited to try a dissolving version with no water necessary, in the flavors of Strawberry Lemonade and and Tropical Fruit, respectively.

Sherry Ratay is part colorist, part scientist, and overall, hue genius! I recently had the “Ratay experience” at the
Julien Farel Salon in Manhattan, where the Orlando, Florida-based Ratay (
if you’re in the Orlando area, check out Sherry’s salon, Salon Ratay!) comes
every 4-6 weeks to cater to her New York clientele, which includes celebrities, influentials, and overall, women who just appreciate a custom, gorgeous hair shade. With color at the heart of her passion, Sherry is a 20 year veteran of the industry, traveling and teaching the art of color all over the country.
Since going red nine months ago, I’m still navigating the exact shade that looks best on me, and I last refreshed the gingery hue myself via a box of at-home color. It did the trick for the time being, and as much as I know about beauty, there’s nothing like having a talented colorist work on your tresses!
