What The Cause (and the Runway Show) The Heart Truth is All About

During the month of February we see hearts and the color red everywhere we turn, but in the world of fashion these staples take on a different meaning.  Now in its 11^th year, The Heart Truth campaign is continuing to make efforts in their mission of raising awareness for heart disease in women with its annual Red Dress Collection fashion show on February 6^th. Previous shows have featured celebrities such as Gloria Estefan, Rebecca Romijn and Heidi Klum walking the runway in red gowns created by renowned designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, Jason Wu and many more.  Through the support of Hollywood and the fashion world, the Red Dress has become a recognizable symbol in the fight against heart disease and has aided in the organization’s goal of educating and encouraging women to lead a healthier lifestyle and to take earlier action to reduce their risk of heart disease.

This year, The Heart Truth has taken a more interactive approach to spreading the message of maintaining a healthy heart with a few online ventures. On February 1^st for National Wear Red Day they encouraged people to post a photo of their Red Day outfit on their blog or preferred social channel with the hashtag  #HeartTruth and a message about why they want to stay heart healthy.  These photos will be shared on the National Wear Red Day’s Pinterest to work as inspiration for other women to become more aware of the campaign’s message to take care of their hearts.

There’s also a Facebook application titled Red Dress Yourself App that allows users to take a look at the previous collections of celebrities in designer’s red dresses while providing  resources like facts nf heart disease and the ways they can take action toward increasing heart health. As for the clothes, The Heart Truth is live streaming the Red Dress fashion show on its Facebook page on February 6^th so that everyone will have a chance to watch this important event. The Red Dress Collection show is an exciting and important way to herald in the start of New York Fashion Week by reminding everyone that in order to have a happy and healthy life that it’s not only the outside that counts, but the inside as well.
