This morning, it was 17 degrees outside when I woke up, so three layers of tops was my only option, unless, that is, I wanted to freeze on my brief jaunts in the outdoors. I hated that I had so many layers on to endure the cold, that the only thing I could shove my roly poly’ed arms into, on over top of everything, was a shapeless sleeper coat– not exactly what I had in mind to give off the appearance of a seasoned New Yorker! It IS possible, however to cut the bulk and hit the elements with a confident smile in well-tailored, fitted, yet incredibly warm outerwear. Wellensteyn is most certainly the way to go! My Dad, being a Wellensteyn guy for a few years now discovered the brand at one of, if not the best men’s shop in Pittsburgh, Joseph Orlando, and had insisted I give a look over the well -edited women’s line.
Founded in Germany over 60 years ago, Wellensteyn combines ultra-durable and functional with impeccable fits and styling silhouettes at price points that rival other high end outwear brands, but compared to Wellensteyn, frankly, in my opinion, don’t quite deliver on the warmth factor guarantees. With a growing editorial and celeb presence (Sundance), plus an online presence and retailers throughout the country, the brand is more accessible now than ever. What’s your favorite style? I’m loving the Wild Thing Bomber (pictured) and the Biscaya Vest.
