The Show: Christopher Kane Spring 2013
The Theme: Frankenstein takes over sophisticated and feminine
The Color Palette: Whites and pastels
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Christopher Kane brilliantly reinvented classic dresses and pantsuits by adding Frankenstein-inspired graphics and materials. Plastic bolts, rubber bows, and electrical tape accented each piece giving the sophisticated outfit a bit of a punk, DIY subversive edge. One of the highlights featured an overly structured yellow dress with plastic bolts, elevating the shoulders and securing the skirt’s slits. Both the cut of the dress and the adornments ended up coming off as extremely modern and original.
The Show: T by Alexander Wang
The Theme: Sleek and Minimalist
The Color Palette: Black, whites, greys and pale pinks, blues and greens
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Alexander Wang is notorious for his modern pieces in neutral tones – this collection was no exception. Crepe suits and dresses were immaculately cut and very simplistic with touches of satin and leather. The standout look was a pale lavender pant suit worn over a matching leather bralette. Although the suit was classic in style, the structure and cut was extremely innovative – definitely a must have come spring.
The Show: Mary Katrantzou Spring 2013
The Theme: Postage stamps and banknotes from around the world
The Color Palette: Navy, Pearl and Prints
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: The collection displayed impeccable silhouettes, thanks to the variety of a-line, shift, and shirt dresses. The abstract prints embellished with various types of fringe and statement jewelry provided a refreshing and unpredictable twist. Each look was so unique that each piece managed to stand on its own. One of the highlights was a printed pearl shift dress with metallic brocades and black mesh high-low skirt. The detail on the look pictured is exquisite; unlike anything seen this season.
