There’s no denying that I’m a sucker for great design and thoughtful branding, and Hubble is absolutely the real deal, the full (and 100% recyclable) package, keeping everything it puts out sleek, straightforward, and display-worthy. Some products can have the benefit of resting on their laurels when it comes to looks, being able to get away with the actual product being average or even sub-par, but for something as utilitarian as a contact lens, there must be quite a bit of substance behind the product itself.
The New York City-based startup, co-founded by Jesse Horwitz and Ben Cogan, formerly of Harry’s (the direct-to-consumer, subscription razor brand), sought to create a safe contact lens solution that was at its core, affordable and efficient. Interestingly enough, the current landscape of contact lens manufacturers have a relative monopoly on the market, resulting in ridiculous markups of 15%-100%, which the consumer has no choice but to absorb. Hubble fills in the void in the contact lens market by using a FDA-approved Taiwan-based manufacturer St. Shine to produce its private label brand and cuts hence cuts out the middleman.
