Fall’s Patterns and Prints: Pretty, Provocative, and Perfect

Patterns and prints can feel so timeless, while also feeling fresh at the same time. Each season new interpretations of the hottest prints are showcased on the runway. Following are the most on-trend, favorite prints for Fall 2011 that we can’t wait to wear!

1. Plaid – The classic school uniform print has gone from good girl to edgy. Plaid can be oh-so chic on and off the runway. Seen on scarves, bags, pants, ponchos and more, this pattern is always appropriate for fall weather.

2. Polka Dot – A “spot-on” trend right now, polka dots are DEFINITELY making a fashion-forward statement. Marc Jacobs set the tone with his head to toe dotted looks, however for a more realistic approach try micro dot polka dot tights, a sheer polka dot blouse, or even a blazer. Nourish Your [Fashion] Palette

When craving inspiration, I really find that I can draw on almost anything around me.  With the cooler temperatures coming and the gorgeous harvest accompanying it, fall foods and foliage have become my newest muse. Thus, my latest creative endeavor; mimicking my surroundings in my fashion/beauty choices.

Cranberries + Covetable Lipstick

This Nars Pure Matte Lipstick ($25) is an instant pick-me-up for the face. The matte finish is appropriate for the day, while ideally provides enough “oomph” for night.  This berry hue is my favorite, but all 11 shades are certainly luscious.

Asos Tailored Belted Ponti Fit and Flare Skirt ($27.94)

Acorn Squash + Adorable Skirt

This mustardy-squash yellow is a great pop of color for fall. Work it in the same way you would a neutral beige for day or jazz it up at night with wedges and a chunky sweater. Either way, the flirty fit-and-flare look makes this skirt a must.

Hot Cocoa + Cozy Sweater

In much the same way that a steamy hot cocoa warms the soul, this mocha sweater from NastyGal.com imparts that super snugly vibe. Whether you prefer a Mocha Latte, Hot Chocolate, or even a  Pumpkin Spice Latte, we can all agree that bulky knits and earth tones are simply perfect for Fall.

Nature’s Leaves + Nails

Fall nail colors have shifted from summer’s brights. Auburns, khakis, mauves, apple-cidery shades– you could have a new tip tone for every week if so desired. Don’t forget a little shimmer! Fall’s lacquer collections really offer a variety of shades – statement or neutral.

Pumpkin Pie + Pretty Blouse

Mmm, pumpkin pie. Creamy and divine, every bite tastes like fall. This sheer cropped blouse is a functional, transitional piece as it gets a bit cooler.  The best part? The flow of the blouse is as cozy as the comfort food it mimics.

Milan Fashion Week SS12: Missoni, Versus

Missoni

Missoni did it yet again with their signature kaleidoscopic knitted effect!  Each and every garment possessed a , look-at-me quality, in its gorgeous tapestry essence. No color went missing: fuchsia, royal blue, yellow, pumpkin, indigo, chocolate brown, and more easily surfaced. The shoulder baring tops and ruffle skirts felt very Chiquita Banana meets the Amalfi Coast,  and leather added a contrasting texture to the film flounces. This collection got everyone’s minds off the Missoni for Target Collaboration for a moment,  and back onto the signature runway collection.

Versus

Just when I thought I had seen it all…a basketball court-cum -runway presented itself for spring 2012. Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane, the masterminds behind Versus, gave us courtside seats to their SS12 collection filled with bold jersey dresses, eye-catching zig zag patterns, sleek cutouts and slits. The Easter egg color palette made sporty feel soft. Choose your style: cheerleader or jock? Either way, it’s three cheers (or three points) for this design team.

F/W 2011 Collections: Malandrino, Y-3, Suno

February 13th, proved to be yet another successful day at Fashion Week.  Three stand-out designers were Malandrino,Y-3, and Suno, who all brought varying forms of design to the table.  Malandrino used her French advantage to the fullest, with furs and evening dresses in deep jewel tones.  The dresses were not only exquisite, but figure flattering with strategic ruching, enhanced décolletage, and empire waists.  Y-3, a performance based label by Yoji Yamato, took the design aesthetic to a whole other level.  The clothes looked like they could be used to deter the elements rather than to conquer the elliptical.  The styles were both militaristic and pioneered with protective shapes covering the body.  On the contrast, Suno a 2-year-old label was a exploration of timelessness— with their inspiration found in the elderly.  With wallpaper like prints and a sophisticated palette with pops of bright colors, the tunics and skirts were anything but dapper, and always, ultra-chic.
