The Collection: Chanel Fall 2013
The Theme: It’s a Chanel world after all
The Color Palette: Black, gray, blue, and pink.
About the Collection: Chanel rules the world! At least that was the idea conveyed by the massive globe that was the centerpiece to Karl Lagerfeld’s most recent fashion spectacle. Glittering tweed jackets and short flared skirts were a favorite pairing, while coats that were cut short in the front and long in the back reworked these classic pieces with a sartorial mullet-inspired ensemble. The accessories captured a lot of attention as well, with metal hardware seen on the leather thigh high boots, and small ornamental globes were the evening bags of choice, while the standout pieces were the fur helmets, appearing in soft shades of blue, mint, red or pink. With each new collection, Chanel seems to decree a manifesto for how women should dress and we are more than willing to be loyal followers in this new world order.

The Collection: Givenchy Fall 2013
The Theme: A Feminine Gypsy w a Hard Edge
The Color Palette: Black, orange, and red
About the Collection: It is a great accomplishment to be able to make a sweatshirt a fashionable staple fit for the evening, and no one does this better than Riccardo Tisci. Contrast was a theme that ran throughout the lineup, with Tisci combining his signature printed sweatshirts with sheer tulle skirts, or balancing tough leather biker jackets with long, ruffled paisley or floral skirts to create looks that were harmonized into a casual elegance. For the hair, tight faux vintage curls in bright shades of pink, red, orange, and blue created the perfect accent for this show that drew so much inspiration from pieces from the past, while reworking them into something new, exciting, and embellished for the future.
