So, you’ve scored the invite to celebrate Thanksgiving this year with your boyfriend and his family. With the excitement and anxiety that comes with the invite also comes the dilemma of what to wear. You want to look classic, feel comfortable, and exude confidence all the while wowing them. At FPD, we solved the dilemma of getting dressed by offering a few options to help you look your best, so you can focus on baking the most delicious pumpkin pie they’ve ever tasted!

The Dress
You can truly wear a dress to almost any event. Sheath dresses are timeless and reliable. Remember to steer clear of of ones too short and too tight! Save that for the club, not the “meet the parents” moment. For fall, we favor a sweater dress or a shirtdress with tights. Determine whether or not the affair is normally casual or more formal to decipher between heels, wedges, flats, or flat boots.

One of the best things about beauty is that playing around with color is strong encouraged, if not highly recommended. After hearing about how CND nail expert Wanda Ruiz mixed two CND colors, Bicycle Yellow and Blackjack together to get this stunning nail color, it definitely inspired some curiosity as to how to best DIY a new shade of nail color, adding in a new spin on the current colors in our collections.
FPD: Please tell us about how you made the Karen Walker nail color.
WR: The nail color was custom blended…I took a bottle of Bicycle Yellow and added 7 drops of Blackjack to it, shook it up, and that was the final shade. It’s all mixed together.
FPD: To do seven drops of polish against a base, what other color combos, besides black on yellow, should work? Is it always better to pair a darker color on top with a lighter on the bottom, or what would you say is the key to mixing and matching so that it looks distinct and not like you had a ‘nail accident’?
WR: Adding a few drops of black to any color will tone it down. We did this to create ombre nails at Jen Kao’s Spring 2012 shows as well. If you want to take a nearly neon color and make it a little less bright, add between 5 – 10 drops of black polish directly into the bottle and shake.
Thanks for the tips Wanda, and we can’t wait to start shaking up our current nail polish assortment with some new custom-mixed hues!

Every.step.is.painful. Been there before? I sure have; more times than I’d like to recall! I’ve been forced to take cabs, or even remove my shoes (gasp!) while at a party, as all I can focus on is how much my feet are KILLING me at that moment and need immediate relief. Give your feet some cushiony relief with insoles that are designed for women’s shoes and comprised of memory foam. The made in the U.S.A. Stiletto Hardware insoles offer three styles: Ball-of-foot cushions, ultra-slender ball-of-foot cushions, and heel cushions (for flats). At $7.95 per pair, you can add some much-needed support, softness, and comfort to shoes that you love, but just can’t bare wearing more than 10 minutes.
