The Show: La Perla Fall 2013 Collection
The Theme: A dreamlike modest sexy
The Inspiration: For the most recent La Perla collection, inspiration was drawn from Spain in the 1930s as well as from the film “Manolete,” the story about one of the most famous bullfighters, with a reputation as both a great lover and a fighter. The Black Label collection from the brand also has a collaborative inspiration: fashion design drawings from Elsa Schiaparelli and Surrealist artists Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró.
The Color Palette: Blush pink, hunter green, red, and black
The Signature, Standout Look: With Valentine’s Day only a few days away, it’s a shame that these pieces won’t be available sooner! Everything in this lingerie collection was exquisite, with a main focus on embroidery, embellishments, and rich color. Key pieces included: bras, panties, nightgowns, bodysuits, robes, and garters. The intricate lace patterns were seen throughout all the garments, giving all the pieces a classy, sexy feel. Part of this collection was the rebirth of the Black Label, which has been on pause for a few seasons now. The sheer mesh layering, the fur, and those killer heels were standouts; my personal favorite being a sheer mesh jumpsuit in the Black Label collection.

The Show: Emerson
The Theme: ’90s Grunge
The Color Palette: Grey and burgundy contrasted with yellow and navy plaids
The Signature/Standout Look: The combination of leather and plaid in Emerson’s Fall 2013 collection brought us back to the glory days of early ’90s. Perfectly cut black moto jackets, shift dresses, and carefree flowing plaid skirts reflected a mix of punk-British style with grunge that we’ve grown love exponentially, however there is more tailoring than slouch this time around. The use of sheer plaid and tweed fabrics in yellow and navy gave the collection an original twist. Our absolute favorite piece was a pair of half black, half purple leather pants. They are both funky and practical – a great statement item for fall!

The new Gola + Liberty London collection is AMAZING! 19th century fabrics brand Liberty London has been creating incredible prints and fabrications for over a hundred years, and now with the team up with British brand Gola (which has also been in business for more than a hundred years!) you can get some pretty decorative sneakers. Not to leave any detail unwanting, the laces are done in a thick woven ribbon, while the inside of the shoe box is even decorated in a fanciful floral design. Six print colorways are available (in high and low sneaker styles), and I will be sporting the “Quota Melly” style, courtesy of the brand, this week.
Which one is your favorite?

The Show: Vivienne Tam
The Theme: Hong Kong Gothic
The Color Palette: Red and Black
The Standout Look: An Asian influence is very characteristic of Tam’s collections and Fall 2013 was no exception. The reflection of Hong Kong trends in this collection was extremely apparent. However, the use of black lipstick, leather, and plaid gave this collection a much more gothic/punk vibe than expected. Tam used a lot of radical cuts on her pieces and included prints with Chinese symbols. Another print that occurred multiple times throughout the collection was a bunch of men in sunglasses holding up a smartphone scan code; not surprising as Tam is always embracing the cutting edge of technology. While the show was overall very dark and intense, a great piece that Tam reinvented was high-waisted cargo pants; they are masculine, yet flattering and a perfect addition to any fall wardrobe.
