The most important, universal accessory of New York Fashion Week Day 1 was..an umbrella! It was constantly raining, without much of an opportunity given to enjoy the outdoors in these final days of the wonderful heat, which is so unfashionable! I did catch a few moments of much-appreciated sunlight, racking up way more steps via my FitBit than usual, as I took that opportunity to swiftly walk in my New York stride between fashion show venues.
This season, my looks don’t exactly have a theme, but I’ve been breaking my “no black at fashion week” rule, planning to wear an array of black clothing, and even accessories. I’m excited to wear Sorrelli’s brand new Black Fringe collection, which just came out this week an antique gold-tone finish, stone clusters, and angular, geometric designs. Head over to Instagram for a chance to win some Sorrelli girl New York Fashion Week jewels of your own, with pieces from the newest collections up for grabs. Stay tuned for more of my looks from New York Fashion Week, as well as what keeps me fueled in the beauty, nutrition, and tech departments.

This NYFW awakened to a spring full of florals as soon as the spring/summer 2016 collections began. Perhaps it was the rainy day that helped them grow; flowers popped up on practically every runway! Fresh designs and unique interpretations of floral motifs could be seen, from techno prints to beautiful embroideries. A celebration of a new season being born, everything is coming up roses when the warmer months will return next year.
In its first NYFW appearance, CALIA by Carrie Underwood featured athletic wear that celebrates women who strive to lead a healthy lifestyle and arms today’s multi-faceted woman with a wardrobe that transitions her through her journey of wellness. The newest evolution of the line features apparel and accessories in warm colors, nature-inspired patterns and luxe, tech materials. With touches of floral on leggings, tops and scarves, the designs were versatile and stylish, offering a fresh take on fitness apparel.
Leanne Marshall’s runway show took us through the dark days of winter into the warmth of spring and summer, complete with amazing crowns of floral decadence atop volumes of deep green silk. Flowing fabrics with embroidered flowers delicately placed on waistlines and down skirts, glided along the runway. Organic and original, Marshall created an enchanting showcase of all things flora and fauna.
In a celebration of springtime in Japan, Tadashi Shoji took us on a journey through serene gardens filled with wisteria and lavender blooms. Tadashi decorated feminine, flowing frocks and dresses full of tulle with embroidered details of blossom motifs. The designer’s gowns are sure to pop up on red carpets well before spring 2016.
As always, Desigual’s runway was bold and vibrant, showcasing the energy of Barcelona’s women. From sporty to sensual, the show was upbeat and lively. As for the flowers, bright neon florals and techno print blooms surfaced everywhere. Not for the faint of heart, Desigual provided a stylish impact in prints, especially the delicate, floral variety.

As spring revives our spirits after the long winter months (and gets us excited for the warmer weather and longer days of summer), designs echoed these sentiments by providing us with a fresh play on proportion. Hang on to your crops and culottes, ladies: these trends are back for an encore that deserves a standing ovation!
A MOI captured the balance of structure and femininity in her collection, inspired by the dynamic movements of the planet Mercury, envisioned as the home of the lead character from designer Alejandra Alonso’s favorite childhood book, The Little Prince. The straight and cropped shapes of the design house’s toppers helped balance the feminine swing of the high-waisted full skirts and wide leg bottoms, varying between delicate pastel and classic neutral shades.
Daniel Silverstain captured the trend by infusing the inspiration of modern architecture and vibrant decor of Montreal. Silverstain pushed the limits of proportion in the best way possible: pairing form-fitting bandeaus tops with sleek, high–waisted skirts in bold colors and textures, high-waisted culottes with a loose fitting, double layer bandeau top and (one of my favorites), playing on the proportion trend by using sheer organza with jacquard to create the illusion of shorts within pants.
Inspired by the whimsical contrast of hot air balloons overlooking The Savannah and hand painted African patterns, WHiT incorporated its signature element of flair and whimsy into the mix and match trend by layering a knee length, crisp white cotton button down shirt dress under a preppy high-waisted and tiered mini skirt. Keeping true to the playful dynamic of the designs, designer Whitney Pozgay also showcased crisp wide-leg culottes and printed asymmetrical skirts with structured crops twisted into an undone knot; a detail that captures the designer’s humor and artistic sense at play.

On my trip out west to New Mexico, it felt natural to wear my new Levi‘s, since the brand has been doing good old classic blue jeans and western wear since…well…way before my time! I’m a boyfriend jeans girl, so when asked by Levi’s to pick out a courtesy pair from the new collection, I had no doubt in my mind what style I was going to indulge in. I’m sure you’ve heard of the classic 501 style by Levi’s, a silhouette that as of late, has been worn by fashion editors and stylish guys alike, but it’s been reborn for a versatile, modern fit with the 501CT (also available for both men and women).
The new style is straighter at the waist, smaller in the behind, and features a slightly more taken in inseam. The interesting thing about it is that the sizing is…totally up to you! Stick to your usual size for a big of baggy, go up one or two sizes for extra bagginess, or down one or two for a fitted look. I stuck pretty true to size, since I love the roominess of a boyfriend jean; it’s effortless without even trying. I loved the style so much that I promptly whipped out my credit card to spring for a second pair in a different wash.
If you like Levi’s but are not a boyfriend jeans person, try the new 700 series of super skinny jeans that have great stretch and a seamless look.
