The Show: Kate Spade Fall 2013
The Hair Inspiration: Big hair has never looked so good thanks to Tommy Buckett, the lead hair stylist for Garnier, came into the mix. Buckett explained that the inspiration for the high sky, over-the-top volume flaunted on all the models was inspired by the charismatic energy of 1970s New York. He looked to the liveliness of Andy Warhol and thought about the “anything goes” attitude that makes New York, well New York. While talking to Buckett, he also noted that he wanted to “shy away from beach hair and look towards a polished and sleek look.”
Since volume is the essence of this look, Buckett and the Garnier team heat to blow out and set hair by pinning it in sections while using products such as the Fructis Style Volume Extend Pure Volume Dry Shampoo, the XXL Volume Thickening Mousse, Hi-Rise Lift Root Booster, Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector, and Volumizing Anti-Humidty Spray to get the desired effect.
The Makeup Inspiration: Neil Scibelli for Jouer Cosmetics wanted a “fun, a girl in the town in New York” look that embodied the fierce yet sexy New York energy. Using all Jouer cosmetics, Scibelli created a classic New York look with bold three-dimensional lips, strong lashes and retro cat-eye makeup to have an energetic and timeless appeal.
The Nail Inspiration: Wanting to capture 1970s disco, New York inspired nails, Deborah Lippmann created a unique pink color called “Zing Pink,” a combo of three hues with a pyramid stud placed on each nail (Kate Spade’s signature clasp closure), as well as an all black nail using her shade Fade to Black from the Debra Lippman Collection.
