The Show: Timo Weiland Spring 2013
The Theme: After deejaying at the opening of the Brooklyn Museum’s Keith Haring exhibit, Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein became fascinated with the artist’s involvement in New York’s eighties hip-hop movement. Menswear designs boasted relaxed silhouettes and bold graphics. Womenswear reflected Haring’s signature graffiti art; select pieces were embellished with dense arrangements of Swarovski Elements. The collection was abundant with bright colors and oversized patterns including herringbone and houndstooth.
The Color Palette: Yellow, navy, camel, salmon, black, white
Best / Collection’s Signature Standout Look: The men looked cool and casual sporting loosely fitting jackets, basketball-esque shorts, trousers and track pants. Solid colors of navy, camel and white with punches of tie-dyed prints.
The ladies wore classic cuts with contemporary style including oversized houndstooth, herringbone and graffiti-inspired prints. Standout pieces included indulgent Swarovski Elements accents that sparkled in the bright lights of the runway. A favorite of the show was the Leven top with blue & green Swarovski Elements crystals and a navy evening skirt.
The Show: Rochambeau
The Theme: Idyllic images portray the seashore as sunny, youthful, and bright. Rochambeau menswear for spring turns this common ideology on its head after being inspired by a somewhat dark and sinister image of a volcanic ash beach surrounded by basalt rock formations on the southern coast of Iceland. This collection turns one’s most basic truths about the water and the beach upside down and presents a dark, mythological, other-wordly interpretation of one of one of our most treasured summer destinations… the seashore.
The Color Palette: Neutral tones including black, dark grey, silver and cream with accents of bright coral and pink
Best / Collection’s Signature Standout Look: As models swayed to tribal music in a room filled with green haze and incense it was clear that the performance was as important as the presentation. The sinister vibe and unique silhouettes, including high-waisted harem pants and a printed jumpsuit were standouts. The elements of accessories, such as brightly colored Holst + Lee jewelry, flat-brimmed hats, and sunglasses, brought the seashore theme full circle.
