The Theme: Art Meets Fashion

The Color Palette: Green, red, yellow, bright blue, black, brown, and pink

The Collection’s Signature, Standout Look: Where art and fashion intersect, Prada is (obviously) at that angle. Inspired by muralists and the art world, the collection was stamped with slightly cartoonish, painted faces adorning everything from dresses, bags to fur coats and the elaborate backdrop of a set. Collage elements were shown in one particular dress that displayed a cartooned female face while other parts of the dress were adorned with three hues of crystals overlaying a bright blue slip made out of the same ribbed, knit material as the leg warmers (for spring!). If there was ever a case for wearable art, this collection would be the highly visible answer.

The Theme: Luxurious Athletic Wear

The Color Palette: Black, red, beige, purple, gold, green and blue

The Collection’s Signature, Standout Look: If anyone can make track pants and mesh shirts look sleek opposed to sloppy, it’s certainly Gucci. For spring, designer Frida Giannini took a more sporty approach to the season, while still retaining Gucci’s signature sensuality.  Kimon- sleeved cardigans printed with an art nouveau floral motif provided a nice alternative to a zip-up hoodie when paired with silk track pants, and a mesh triangle bra (which, coincidentally, was layered under many pieces of the collection). Appropriate sportswear for the gym, maybe not, but we can definitely see these relaxed, loose fitting pieces and its casual-meets-luxe concepts making an appearance at many a nightclub come 2014.
