Like many office workers nationwide, I lunch at my desk more often than not, BUT I almost always make a point to leave my computer for a few minutes to go outside and pick something up to eat. Especially in New York, when the weather is incredibly warm and pleasant outside, I absolutely must unglue myself from the keyboard and walk around for a bit, at the very least to warm up from my chilly office.
Summer lunch of choice? A hearty spinach salad with cool cucumber, artichoke hearts, and corn. My casual outfit of choice? A citrus-y hued bottom matched with a neutral or mint top, comfy shoes (in case I decide to stroll to Central Park), and an on-trend bag. Sometimes I wear bangles into work, remove them when they become too cumbersome to type, but then slide them back on when I head out for lunch.
Another summer office staple is a chic, ultra long scarf (not pictured) for those days when the sun is glaring outside, but the temperature inside is at sub-zero. I usually leave a few scarves at my office, for my arms and shoulders, but sometimes end up draping one across my lap too. The Wall Street Journal recently had a great article on how to stylish dress for when it’s cold INSIDE, which advises my scarf tip, layering, and several other great recommendations.
How do you dress for the office versus the outdoors in the summer?
