I was asked to participate in the Lucky Jeans launch of their “New Movement in Denim” by making something from the denim Jean-ius kit they provided. The bloggers who participated (about 10) will have their items in the windows of the Lucky Brand store in SoHo (535 Broadway) and be judged by Tim Gunn on Fashion’s Night Out, with the winning entry to be shared on Lucky Brand’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages. The winner’s spoils include a year’s supply of Lucky Brand jeans, an exclusive Q&A session with LizClaiborne CCO Tim Gunn and an autographed copy of Gunn’s Golden Rules. If you happen to find yourself in SoHo on Fashion’s Night Out, this Thursday, September 8th, check it out!
Although this piece isn’t a masterpiece, I had to adhere to the contest rules, which meant I had to use every item provided in the kit (pictured) at least once.
Here’s what I had to say about the bag:
“Wanting to stay true to the brand’s spirit, I was inspired by Native American purses, similar to Lucky’s Ojai Crossbody Bag. I used all of the kit materials with one addition: I ran out of navy thread and needed to buy more! I refashioned the pocket as a functional and decorative element on the front, Sharpie-ed the stitching, glitter glued the seams, used the inside hem as a strap, and selected Lucky’s most iconic patch, the clover. Just like on the jeans, inside of the flap I just had to include the slogan “Lucky You” in the provided puffy paint!”
