Everything Old is Still New for Fall 2011 (With a Mix of New Trends)

Personally, fall is my favorite season and nothing gets me more excited than the fashion that comes along with the change of weather! It feels as though the seasons change with a blink of the eye, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw away last year’s clothes! Stay chic by dusting off last year’s digs and adding a few more fall essentials.

From fall 2010, you can wear again:

Fur/Faux Fur Vests

Layer your look with a fur/faux fur vest to keep you warm when it starts to get chilly out. Pair your vest with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans. Add a chunky heel for a stylish addition to polish off your look

Over-the-knee Boots

The over-the-knee boots trend continues to stay strong, as this style is here to stay throughout fall and winter. Boots add a glamorous rock ‘n roll feel to any ensemble this season and keeps your little feet warm at the same time.

This season, don’t forget to add a few more additions to your closet!

Crimson

The runways and red carpets have been packed full with a bold and beautiful color; crimson. Wear a crimson dress, jacket, blouse, or a handbag to add a pop of color. The sexy hue really adds excitement to your every day outfits.

Mixed Prints

Mixing prints can be tricky, but just have fun with it! Soft and bold prints complement well together this fall. Mix a light cotton printed tee with a chunky knit in earth tone colors and prints.

Best of Fashion Week SS12: Accessories

New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks have all displayed an array of wish-list worthy accessories.  We’ve covered the SS12 clothing trends, yet accessories are an outfit’s bells-and-whistles. Check out some of our favorites…

Handbags

JCrew (pictured above) absolutely nailed it with their ladylike collection of handbags for spring 2012. Blue, orange, green, yellow…did we mention leopard?! Perfectly practical, but still extremely fashion forward.

Clutches

I simply can’t pick a favorite, so let’s call it a tie. Proenza Schouler (at top) mixed textures to create tweed clutches with chunky chain detail straps, while Chloe mixed accessories to make what looks to be a bracelet-bag combo. Gotta have it!

Shoes

Celine really wowed with their take on the platform heel/pump for the upcoming season. Basic black or the marriage of black and red, simplicity says it all. Even more incredible, with your ankle strapped in, these shoes look totally wearable – dare I even say comfortable?

Sunglasses

Frameless sunglasses at Fendi felt interestingly academic. Deviating away from the line’s normal sexuality, the glasses definitely added to the serious, studious woman, a style rather novel for Fendi.

Jewelry

Bracelets: The stacked multi-colored bangles at Carolina Hererra proved that wrists should not be left naked. The more, the merrier come Spring 2012.

Necklaces: Donna Karan went wild with her tribal-inspired neckpieces strung with wood and plastic. Meanwhile, Givenchy’s statement shark-tooth pendants give “sharp” a double meaning.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2012: Emporio Armani, Pucci, Jil Sander

Emporio Armani

In a story of masculine-meets-feminine ease, the Emporio Armani spring lineup displayed the designer’s best foot forward at contemporary sportswear pieces.  A closer look at the collection made it seem as if I had flipped through an old-fashioned black-and-white photo album: classically piped blazers and jackets crowned with skimmer hats felt dainty yet refined.  Halter dresses, slim skirts, and pastel cropped pants impressed with a definitive sensual feel.  In all of its largely asexual appeal, however,these garments are truly ready-to-wear, even with the sparkling crystal details — perhaps the perfect touch to break the monotony of day-wear.

Emilio Pucci

While we may not all be bold enough to bare our own midriffs, Pucci’s  above the belly tops yielded a muted sex appeal that all women aspire to exude, regardless of the stage or current phase of life. It was impossible to look away from the jumble of prints and peeks of lace insets.  The black, red and pink palette initiated an early can’t-stop-me strength, and towards the end things got lighter (and shinier!). A lot of skin and a lot of awestruck detailing breathed new life into the storied Florentine brand- magnifico!

Jil Sander

Raf Simons teased us all with bits of color, but his main attraction, the show’s beginning and ending, was pure white. Jil Sander’s spring looks were rooted in its history with its “signature white poplin shirt,” sometimes sensually sheer, further reinforcing a transparent theme for spring 2012. Paisley and gingham later made an appearance; it was certainly modernism combined with couture that sparked the curious, less minimalist spirit of the collection.

Milan Fashion Week SS12: Missoni, Versus

Missoni

Missoni did it yet again with their signature kaleidoscopic knitted effect!  Each and every garment possessed a , look-at-me quality, in its gorgeous tapestry essence. No color went missing: fuchsia, royal blue, yellow, pumpkin, indigo, chocolate brown, and more easily surfaced. The shoulder baring tops and ruffle skirts felt very Chiquita Banana meets the Amalfi Coast,  and leather added a contrasting texture to the film flounces. This collection got everyone’s minds off the Missoni for Target Collaboration for a moment,  and back onto the signature runway collection.

Versus

Just when I thought I had seen it all…a basketball court-cum -runway presented itself for spring 2012. Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane, the masterminds behind Versus, gave us courtside seats to their SS12 collection filled with bold jersey dresses, eye-catching zig zag patterns, sleek cutouts and slits. The Easter egg color palette made sporty feel soft. Choose your style: cheerleader or jock? Either way, it’s three cheers (or three points) for this design team.
