Hot or Not: GAP Lace-Up Oxfords (thefind Guest Post)
I’ll admit that I rarely frequent the GAP nowadays, but the great thing about that store is that I know I can always count on it for all my basic essentials: comfy tees, trusty 1969 jeans, cozy knit sweaters, and affordable menswear-inspired blazers (when I don’t have the energy to dodge the crowds and strewn-about merch at H&M, that is). It’s not my go-to place for a spending spree, but it’s reliable, and on certain shopping trips that can be a real lifesaver. However, when I stumbled across the new soft lace-up oxfords that just hit stores last week, I didn’t have that same underwhelmed-yet-comfortingly-familiar feeling I usually get when browsing their offerings – I was actually intrigued. Maybe it’s the surprisingly chic sueded effect or just my own fascination with the multitude of colors the style comes in, but for some reason I was just convinced that I needed all 5 pairs. After all, if the past three years haven’t made it apparent enough, every girl needs a pair of girly menswear-inspired oxford flats (or several), and considering these are only $50 a pop and come in so many colors to choose from, why not keep collecting? What do you think – are you motivated to buy a pair of these oxford flats, or do you already have more interesting pairs in your shoe arsenal?

Amsale Bridal is UNBELIEVABLE!
Looking at wedding dresses can be such a magical thing; thinking about your childhood expectations, how you would envision yourself, and of course the wow factor of putting on a white wedding dress for the first time can be quite an emotional experience. For me, a future bride-to-be, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect to check out the Amsale, Kenneth Pool, and Christos lines designed by Amsale Aberra, who takes a modern approach to elegance when it comes to the wedding dress. Amsale doled out spot-on advice to me: how to think of the wedding as a whole (“consider it a party, not a reception,” she told me), as well as on the sophistication of rich winter white shades, opposed to pure white, for a dress. Upon examining and gingerly touching the gowns, it was hard to have a bias toward a particular cut or style — they were all so beautiful! Stay tuned as my search for the dress (and the shoes, and the veil, and the jewelry, etc) continues, and if you are a future bride, you can check out Amsale’s gorgeous dresses at her 625 Madison Avenue Boutique, as well as at fine and specialty wedding retailers nationwide (search here), including Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

Wellensteyn Will Make the Winter Chill Stylishly Tolerable
This morning, it was 17 degrees outside when I woke up, so three layers of tops was my only option, unless, that is, I wanted to freeze on my brief jaunts in the outdoors. I hated that I had so many layers on to endure the cold, that the only thing I could shove my roly poly’ed arms into, on over top of everything, was a shapeless sleeper coat– not exactly what I had in mind to give off the appearance of a seasoned New Yorker! It IS possible, however to cut the bulk and hit the elements with a confident smile in well-tailored, fitted, yet incredibly warm outerwear. Wellensteyn is most certainly the way to go! My Dad, being a Wellensteyn guy for a few years now discovered the brand at one of, if not the best men’s shop in Pittsburgh, Joseph Orlando, and had insisted I give a look over the well -edited women’s line.

Founded in Germany over 60 years ago, Wellensteyn combines ultra-durable and functional with impeccable fits and styling silhouettes at price points that rival other high end outwear brands, but compared to Wellensteyn, frankly, in my opinion, don’t quite deliver on the warmth factor guarantees. With a growing editorial and celeb presence (Sundance), plus an online presence and retailers throughout the country, the brand is more accessible now than ever. What’s your favorite style? I’m loving the Wild Thing Bomber (pictured) and the Biscaya Vest.
