NYFW Spring 2014: Osklen Show & Backstage Beauty

Makeup:  Makeup artist Fabiana Gomes for MAC  Cosmetics focused on creating a healthy, sunkissed look for the girls, as if they had just come from the beach. A lip color named New Groove from MAC’s spring collection was used to create subtly shining bronze eyelids, while skin was lightly dusted with a transparent primer powder. For the lips, Gomes applied a peach lipstick called In the Mode, using her fingertips to create a glowing look that worked nicely with the collection’s rich jewel tones.

The Show: Vivienne Tam

The Theme: An ode to Modern Shanghai, Celebrating its New Golden Age as the Epicenter of Culture, Fashion, Technology & Commerce.

The Color Palette: Black, White, Pink, Fern, Turquoise, Green

Collection’s Signature Standout Look: A black and white lotus print embroidered jacket, turquoise and white shirt, lotus print skinny pants, and blue double strap sandals. This look at first may be complex to pair, in due part to the mixed print and color, but with Tam’s simple, tailored fits and clean lines, it’s a breeze.

The Theme: Platinum Metallic Python

The Color Palette: Black, White, Gold, Nude, Army Green, and Red

Collection’s Signature, Standout Look: Metallic green/gold sequined skirt with a nude bustier. This look had a balance of  color and detail that went from subtle sensuality to the ultra glam.

The Color Palette: Black and White, Beige, Gold

Collection’s Signature Standout Look: A mosaic sequin grey dress with a black moto vest. The detail combination of soft and tough made this dress impossible to look away from!

The Theme: Inspired by the life, times and characters of French novelist Francoise Sagan; a focus on freshness and vulnerability of youth.

The Color Palette: Black and White, Pale Grey/Blue

Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Motorcycle jackets still prove to be on-trend, this time around paired with a floral print silk blouse possessing an English hand-quilted cotton and silk floral jacquard lapel, and a silk floral jacquard skirt. This look showcased the quality and craftsmanship of the entire collection. There was an airy and innocent vibe from the silk floral print, and an edge via the fitted black jacket.

The Theme: The Organic and Brilliant Architecture of Gaudi; flirty, seductive, and playful

The Color Palette: Black, White, Tangerine, Aqua, and Sunshine Yellow

Collection’s Signature Standout Look: A tangerine hand-beaded gown with an incredible arch design and low, curved back. The silhouette of this dress was stunning, but to see it in a magnificent, bright tangerine color with all of the hand beaded detail truly was striking.

The Theme: Tweety Bird Goes to Space

The Color Palette: Yellow, Blue, Silver, Black, and White

The Collection’s Signature, Standout Look: For next spring, design duo Phillipe and David Blond looked to another iconic blonde as the inspiration for their latest concoction of looks. Drawing on Tweety Bird’s bright yellow plumage and huge blue eyes, The Blonds created a bejeweled, feathered leotard that gave a luxe and intergalactic update to the classic character. This latest series of designs continued to embody the designers’  sassy and mischievous attitude in a way that would make the iconic bird proud.
