NYFW Spring Collections: BCBG, Desigual, Nicholas K

The Show: BCBGMAXAZRIA
The Theme: California Girls in the 70’s
The Color Palette: ivory, cherry blossom pink, ice blue, cream
About the Collection: While it may seem like a rite of passage for Summer/Spring RTW collections to showcase generous splashes of colors and a kaleidoscope of dazed prints, BCBGMAXAZRIA embraced a clean slate. The sensual and soft color palette played a supporting role to the stark juxtaposition of the fabrics that came into play. For instance, chiffon sleeves breathed a sigh of relief against the more structured and dense, quilted vests. Peek-a-boo sashes emblazoned on the sides or backs of flowing dresses hinted at Asian influences. In fact, California girls during the ‘70s inspired Creative Director Lubov Azria, and with that in mind, it’s clear that the collection evoked the West Coast bohemian ease and sophistication.

The Show: Desigual
The Theme: Tropical Garden Goddess
The Color Palette: teal, onyx, poppy red, lime
About the Collection: Bouquet-sized flower crowns resembling a garden goddess? Count me in. Freshly picked dahlias and tropical hibiscus soaked in saturated hues such as onyx and poppy red were only a handful of the Carmen Miranda-esque headpieces. After all, what better way to cheekily embrace nature? To compliment such eye-catching crowns, the brand re-partnered with Christian Lacroix for garments starring hard-hitting, psychedelic prints inspired by the abundance of flora and fauna. Just picture yourself soaking some UV in one of Desigual’s fresh renditions of the tourists’ classic, a Hawaiian shirt.

The Show: Nicholas K
The Theme: Utilitarian Safari Explorer
The Color Palette: white, military green, periwinkle, black, camel
About the Collection: With the blazing heat, it only made sense that the overarching theme at Nicholas K was safari desert chic. Layers of languid pajama-like cargos and coats lithely floated as sporadic fringe tassels and even faux pony hair placed by the hips added piques of impulsive attention. Natural, Safari tones such as camel and military green hinted at earthy tones, which flattered the background beating of the drums..

			[Vivienne Tam: Three ultra-important trends that started to surface for spring 2014 have now been cemented for 2015 in this look: see-through, embroidery, and white leather sandals. 			[Dennis Basso: Every artist has their medium, and for Mr. Basso, it is fur. Regardless of how you feel about the fuzzy stuff, one can't help but admit that he is a master of his craft, making the most incredibly intricate designs in hues that feel purely on-trend and elegant. 			[Charlotte Ronson: The girl who wears Ronson's clothes is effortlessly cool, which means it's always a good idea of taking notes on what the designer is doing to have a finger on the pulse of what may be next in street style fashion. 			[Josie Natori: Rich fabrics and embroidery are no stranger to Natori's world, however a new riff on a jumpsuit was at once stunning and memorable. It also proved as a reminder to never neglect the powers of a good tie-dye print. (Image via Style.com)]

			
			[Nicole Miller: There was so much to like about this Rio/tropical themed collection, however the subtlety of the pineapples placed cleanly on the sleeves reinforced the brand's ability to think outside of the box, a reason why its stylishly endured all of these years. ]

NYFW Day 4: What Julia Wore!

There’s no such thing as a weekend during fashion week, as shows run from 9am-9pm even on Saturday and Sunday. Nonetheless, I decided to work the glam factor in thanks to this stunning dress from Marimekko and dazzling Sorrelli jewels.

NYFW Day 3: What Julia Wore!

Welcome to Day 3 of New York Fashion Week! My feet aren’t killing me yet-yay! Just for an extra measure to sustain my comfort, I wore one of my favorite pairs of flats, and it being the weekend and all, I thought I could be a bit more casual anyways. Today was a scorcher, with the temperature hitting 92 degrees, so a sleeveless garment was absolutely in order.

Otherwise, here’s to hopefully an Indian summer and a mild winter, and in the meanwhile, I truly am enjoying the sun beating down, in tandem with getting in some of my new summer looks, for a while longer. What I’m wearing is actually two pieces, a halter top and skirt, but give an awesome illusion of one fluid dress, complimented by some blushy sparkle found on my wrists and ears.
