Francisco Costa sure knows how to carry on the Calvin Klein minimalism legacy. Case in point: this black dress, which is, by any standard, no ordinary lbd. The assymetrical sleeve overlay is just incredible, which show’s off Costa’s draping expertise. In real life, it would be great to pair this with a chunky, string of chain bracelet, or an eclectic Subversive Jewelry necklace. Still, Calvin Klein Collection reigns supreme as the king of well-made, minimalist meet perfection garments.

It appears that even Versace is fearful of the recession, with a dramatically toned-down pre-fall 2009 collection. There were a number of Grecian-inspired, red-carpet frocks, however my eyes were immediatly drawn to this rather mod, practical dress. It goes from sweet, to attitude-heavy with the over-the-knee pirate boots, but I love that its dress that comes from Versace that could 100% work to wear during the day. The neckline and waist detailing give an ever so slight mod-bondage feel, but otherwise, it could work in corporate America (sans the boots, of course – replace with some round-toe pumps or riding boots).

Out of the entire pre-fall 2009 collection, this was the “stunner”, the dress that I just couldn’t get out of my mind. It has an almost apron-like overlay to it, and defines the next wave of the “gradient” trend — rather two separate colors that have a thin line that blends the two for a second, then let’s each color own its own identity. And that, folks, is fashion perfection! In fact, I think this is something Michelle Obama may want to wear…it may not be inaugural material, but adequate for a state dinner…

From the pre-fall 2009 collection, we discovered this little beauty; although many of the looks in the collection had zig-zag patterns matching the dresses, I thought that these threads were the absolute chic-est, by far! I absolutely loved the scalloped inteription of knit, fringe, knit, fringe — it easily could have gone into a “trashy” aesthetic, but Missoni knows how to work it in their favor.
