 Backstage Beauty at Marchesa: Get the feathered hair look!

For Marchesa’s Spring show, hairstylist Odile Gilbert created a “Gothic Romance” look using Kérastase Paris and black feathers to add an edgy punk element to contrast with the soft lace and floral gowns.  To achieve this look, start by creating a deep right side part and prep with Keratase Mousse Bouffante. Using a paddle brush, blow dry sections of hair and apply Ciment Thermique to keep hair smooth on top. Gather a small section of hair and create a small ponytail on the right side then secure with a clear elastic band. Spray hair with Laque Dentelle to set the style. Apply hair glue to the black ostrich feathers and apply to the hair at the front right section, starting at the ponytail and working your way down applying feathers as you go. Try this look the next time you feel your hair is missing something. As Marchesa has shown, you can never go wrong with a few feathers, and according to The Wall Street Journal, the trend is super hot right now!

Backstage Beauty at Emerson: Nails, Nails, Nails!

For the nails at EMERSON, nail artist Miss Pop created three looks that were perfect complements to the collections fabrics and colors. Each design was done using Ciate London polish and are simple and fun accents for your fingers that are easy to recreate at home. Let’s get started!

Stipes and Safety Pin: These jagged stripes were created in reference to a fabric that was part of the Emerson collection. This look is perfect for anyone who doesn’t have a steady hand because according to Miss Pop, the less perfect the stripes are, the better this look will turn out. Start with white, painting two coats of Ciate’s Snow Virgin on each nail. Once dry, use a thin nail art striper brush in Unrestricted Glam for the black stripes. Create three jagged lines on each nail and remember they don’t have to be perfect. Allow the polish to set and seal with a top coat. For the runway, Miss Pop pierced each middle finger nail with a safety pin to pump up the punk on this look, but you don’t have to go that far (unless you have on artificial nails)!

Field of Allium Floral Print: Reflecting the floral inspiration for the collection, Miss Pop created a miniature field of flowers that showcase the designer’s favorite flowers-the purple allium. to get this look, start by applying two coats of Ferris Wheel for the blue sky and allow that to dry for a few minutes. Then take a thin nail art striper brush and use Palm Tree to create short lines near the cuticle that look like grass. Next, use the nail art brush to make three longer strokes to create the flower stems. For the flower buds, take an old eye shadow brush and lightly tap little purple balls at the end of the stem using Spinning Tea Cup. Allow the polish to set and seal your miniature garden nails with a topcoat.

Garden Catwalk: This nail is an abstraction of the final walk the models take down the runway in the spring floral Emerson gowns. Centered between two streaks of purple, gaps in the polish are left to allow parts of the natural nail peek through. Using a thin paint brush, swipe Spinning Tea Cup, Talent Scout, Raspberry Collins, and Palm Tree horizontally across the nail, alternating colors with each stroke. Remember to leave little gaps between some of the strokes so the natural nail can show through. Then take Talent Scout and using the nail bottle brush, stroke up the left and the right side of the nail, leaving a wide strip of the multicolor stripes visible. Once dry seal this colorful look with a topcoat.
