Paris Fashion Week SS12: Balenciaga, Balmain, Mugler

Balenciaga

The show began with short shorts and boxy shoulders, with jackets reminiscent of high school letterman varsity jackets. Nothing says Balenciaga more than strong shapes, so not suprisingly, Nicolas Ghesquière drew a bit from the past as well as androgyny, paving a distinctive spring 2012 path with high shine fabrics,color-blocking, and asymmetry.

Balmain

Pastel blue, black leather, a floral motif and delicate embroidery can seem so contradictory, yet young talent Olivier Rousteing blended them together for a gorgeous union. For SS12, Balmain kept the short hem and body-hugging dresses, but slowly introduced sweeping maxis and trousers as well.

Mugler

With Lady Gaga on board, Thierry Mugler may just have created its own set of provocative little monsters. There was a fair share of cutouts and a great deal of sparkle, however balance was maintained in the neutral wash of the color palette. Still, we wouldn’t mess with a Mugler woman- she’s tough, strong, and certainly knows what she wants.

Everything Old is Still New for Fall 2011 (With a Mix of New Trends)

Personally, fall is my favorite season and nothing gets me more excited than the fashion that comes along with the change of weather! It feels as though the seasons change with a blink of the eye, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw away last year’s clothes! Stay chic by dusting off last year’s digs and adding a few more fall essentials.

From fall 2010, you can wear again:

Fur/Faux Fur Vests

Layer your look with a fur/faux fur vest to keep you warm when it starts to get chilly out. Pair your vest with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans. Add a chunky heel for a stylish addition to polish off your look

Over-the-knee Boots

The over-the-knee boots trend continues to stay strong, as this style is here to stay throughout fall and winter. Boots add a glamorous rock ‘n roll feel to any ensemble this season and keeps your little feet warm at the same time.

This season, don’t forget to add a few more additions to your closet!

Crimson

The runways and red carpets have been packed full with a bold and beautiful color; crimson. Wear a crimson dress, jacket, blouse, or a handbag to add a pop of color. The sexy hue really adds excitement to your every day outfits.

Mixed Prints

Mixing prints can be tricky, but just have fun with it! Soft and bold prints complement well together this fall. Mix a light cotton printed tee with a chunky knit in earth tone colors and prints.

Handbags

JCrew (pictured above) absolutely nailed it with their ladylike collection of handbags for spring 2012. Blue, orange, green, yellow…did we mention leopard?! Perfectly practical, but still extremely fashion forward.

Clutches

I simply can’t pick a favorite, so let’s call it a tie. Proenza Schouler (at top) mixed textures to create tweed clutches with chunky chain detail straps, while Chloe mixed accessories to make what looks to be a bracelet-bag combo. Gotta have it!

Shoes

Celine really wowed with their take on the platform heel/pump for the upcoming season. Basic black or the marriage of black and red, simplicity says it all. Even more incredible, with your ankle strapped in, these shoes look totally wearable – dare I even say comfortable?

Sunglasses

Frameless sunglasses at Fendi felt interestingly academic. Deviating away from the line’s normal sexuality, the glasses definitely added to the serious, studious woman, a style rather novel for Fendi.

Jewelry

Bracelets: The stacked multi-colored bangles at Carolina Hererra proved that wrists should not be left naked. The more, the merrier come Spring 2012.

Necklaces: Donna Karan went wild with her tribal-inspired neckpieces strung with wood and plastic. Meanwhile, Givenchy’s statement shark-tooth pendants give “sharp” a double meaning.
