Fashion Week Freebies: The Good, the Bad, & The Just Plain Funny

When fashion week rolls around, I am constantly asked “Oooh what did you get? What was your favorite? Got anything for me?”.  Most people say that every season gets skimpier and skimpier, but I think there is the same mix of makeup, gift certificates, alcohol, etc that there always has been. Of course out of these freebies, anything potentially “guy-centric” goes right to my Dad and brother, and of course, my Mom gets first dibbs on everything.

Vivienne Tam F/W 2009 — Live Blogging Stations

viv2viv1vivi3What an absolutely great idea this was! It was the first time I ever attended such a blogger friendly show/presentation, and was quite impressed with the results. Despite the tight show schedule and rainy weather, the Vivienne Tam boutique in Soho was crowded; I had to squeeze my way to the front to get some pics of the models. All in all, it was a lovely presentation, complete with intricate detailing and brighter colors that will definitely inspire some interesting color matching in the future. This format really did the clothes justice, letting the writers/editors/bloggers etc examine the detailing and craftmanship of each piece up close. Brava Vivienne Tam!

Fashion Week Day 5 Recap

What if working in fashion was always as frenetic as fashion week? I would have to say “no thanks” in that case!

Here they are — the day 5 show reviews — it was a busy one!

00190mMarc by Marc Jacobs:

Not surpsigingly it was an 80s-inspired collection, complete with oversized hipster eyeglasses, Buster Brown hats, colorful scarves, and great bags.

ChoCheng:

Colorful riding coats and pastel satin gowns strongly pervaded Cho Cheng’s debut at fashion week.

MaxAzria:

Darker than the BCBG collection, the signature line featured sculptural jackets, deconstructed tunics, leather and metallics that stated it’s time to think about the future of fashion.

00260mDomenico Vacca:

Very Italian suits, sexy cuts, and visible applique lent its way to making a strong showing in the tents; fashion Italian style still rules!

Rodarte:

True to form, the Rodarte sisters expiremented with a mixture of inspirations, resulting in a distinctive, hand-crafted, yet couture aesthetic.

G Star:

Leathers, buckles, and creamy shades of grey invaded the G Star runway at Hammerstein ballroom; we only wish those drop-crotch pants weren’t so drop crotch — I have a feeling they would make me look even shorter than I already am!

Prints to covet, in silhouettes to love seemed to be Amy Smilovic’s moto for the fall 2009 collection. 00190m-1

Narciso Rodriquez:

A bit sombre, however signature Narciso sleekness prevailed; no wonder the First Lady prefers his collection! Loved the peachy pink dresses; definitely the highlight of the collection (let’s try not to think about the weird head gear, shall we?)
