It must be a great challenge to take a house built on bags to a runway level, but Marc Jacobs proves he can do it, and quite effortlessly; or at least it seems!
The Louis Vuitton fall/winter 2009 collection was certainly an upscale ode to the eighties, but done in a way that it didn’t feel old and already done before. Marc has certainly referenced the eighties quite a bit, more recently is his namesake labels this season, but for some reason, the Louis Vuitton collection tended to look more ahead, instead of behind. The necklaces, reminiscent of stapling construction paper into interlocking loops to hang around the Christmas tree, were just splendid, and the boots were an on-trend indication of what is too come, as far as new heights and details, in footwear.
And, lest I forget the headpieces – wonderful exaggerations of bows, or as I’d like to call them, batwings. My two favorite looks were the “Emerald City” tiered dress, practically straight out of Oz, and the amazingly draped, twisted, and knotted grey dress. Kudos Marc – you’ve done it once again (as if we had any doubt).

It’s really incredible to see how classics can be reworked and reworked and reworked at Chanel. I really have to hand it to Karl Lagerfeld; he has done for Chanel what any storied fashion house would want — been able to attract new generations of customers. I absolutely love this cream heavily layered sweaterdress, but equeally so, the handbag & must-have enclosure bag is simply pure genius. It’s such a fun concept playing off on the idea how the Chanel quilted bag is an essentail every lady must have. I would be curious to see if any of these pop up come next fashion week – I sure hope so!

So they may not be the most practical of looks, however these embellished tights, found on the runways of Miu Miu’s fall 2009 collection are absolutely stunning. I love how they were made to match the decoration on the footwear, and add an intense oomph to any look. I think I like the cream better than the black, as it is easier to see the detailing against the rib of the tights. I’m not sure if they were made strictly for the runway, or will be for sale, but I can’t help but thinking how to launder them…

I really like the idea of jumpsuits, however on petite frames (like yours truly) they’re reminiscent of wearing onesie childrens pajamas. The tank tops/shorts duo is much more manageable, hence I love this Brushed Abstract Jumpsuit, $22.80. The print is absolutely New York cool, and void of any heavy 80s references. Pair it with some chunky or skinny hoop earrings, a pendant necklace, and canvas platforms.
