On April 19th, Marie Claire hosted its 3rd annual Global Beauty Forum at the magnificent Hearst Tower building. Following coffee and a light breakfast, a great panel of today’s beauty change agents, image makers, and influencers took to the stage to share their unique outlooks on femininity and the latest trends in beauty. Among them were Tata Harper, founder of Tata Harper Skincare, and Aamito Lagum, model and winner of the first season of Africa’s Next Top Model. Erin Flaherty, Marie Claire’s Beauty and Health Director led the captivating and educating conversation that took place.
In our opinion, here are the three top takeaways from the event:
Facial Fitness is a thing:
Face yoga, which consists of a range of facial exercises designed by specialists in this field, has shown to help lift, firm, tone, and reduce wrinkles. By working all of the layers of the skin correctly, these techniques increase blood circulation, allowing for more oxygen and nourishment to reach skin cells.
Natural Shea is not only a skincare salve, but also a weight-loss wonder:
Shea butter is extracted from the nut of the African shea tree and it is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer or lotion due to its anti-inflammatory and healing properties. In some African countries, the separating, crushing, and roasting of the nut in order to make the butter is a social activity, traditionally done by women and girls. The resulting butter is edible and is used in food preparation as a healthy alternative to cooking oil.
The wellness revolution is driving exponential growth in natural skincare:
Going green has become a hot new beauty trend and organic beauty collections are popping up all over the place. Natural products are much gentler for people with sensitive skin and offer solutions that products in traditional skin care lines simply can’t compete with. No one likes the idea of slathering artificial products with harsh chemicals onto their skin and so more and more people are in pursuit of natural and organic beauty products.
