This fall is all about playing with contrasts. Edgy spikes on sophisticated pumps, bold printed coats over muted layers, jackets with contrasting sleeves, military-inspired layers over flouncy girly dresses, you name it – it’s time to experiment, mix and match, and combine all aspects of your personality and fashion sense towards one fashionable finished product! One of my favorite new examples of this is the peplum leather jacket. A wardrobe staple traditionally attributed to adding a little more moto-chic edge to your ensemble is getting the girly treatment with skirted peplum details, so you can toe the lines between naughty and nice, girly and tomboy, and edgy and flirty. Plus, while some peplum styles are tricky to pull off on certain figures, as they add extra volume and force you to be more mindful of proportions, peplum jackets help take the boxiness out of your typical leather bomber or moto-style jacket so you can show off your girlish figure, even under multiple fall-friendly layers! Blazers and their slightly-more-structured cousin, the tuxedo jacket, have been a style staple for the casual fashionista everywhere. Throw one on over a classic tee and jeans and you’ve instantly transformed your look from lazy to luxe. Top off a tank and shorts and you’ve got yourself a night-out ensemble that’s totally sophisticated and sexy. The possibilities are endless, and the transition power is always impressive, and now just in time for fall, some of our favorite styles are getting even more stylish with chic leather details. Leather lapels are a subtle yet sexy way to edge up your favorite suited-up look – it’s just as sleek and polished, but with the slightest rock ‘n roll touch that’s perfect for pairing with your new spiky heels or moto ankle boots! It’s the perfect transition piece from summer to fall, if you’re not quite ready to break out the full-on leather jacket!

Animal prints have made their way back onto the style scene after a few decades of being exiled to the realm of tacky extinguished fads, and now it’s time for animal graphics to get another chance in the style spotlight! Forget what you know about animal motifs and cheesy knit sweaters – these modernized, ironic takes on knitwear may be partly inspired by the horrendous gifts our grandmothers used to create for us every Christmas, but they’ve got a much better sense of humor. Cute, quirky, and perfectly cozy for the nippy fall weather ahead, animal motif sweaters are a fun way to add flair and character to an otherwise boring work ensemble. Tuck in to a pencil skirt for a silly meets sophisticated look, or rock with leather-effect coated jeans and some combat boots for a sweet-yet-edgy contrasting ensemble.

From our friends at thefind.com:
As avid fashion mavens, shoppers, and trend watchers, we’ve always heard that “less is more.” Sometimes we take that into consideration (ie: the simple yet iconic little black dress, the moderate use of bronzer), while other times we tend to throw that mantra to the wayside for the sake of fashion risks – for better or worse (ie: denim-on-denim ensembles, sequined leopard print). The latest trend in blouses, the embellished collar, appeals to both our love of conservative-chic pieces and our undeniable temptation to rebel.
