Shoe Matching for Moms (and Aunts)

I’ve never been big on “twinning” with anyone; in high school I always wore vintage dresses to date dances to avoid an awkward encounter of having on the exact same dress as someone else, and as an adult, have been shopping at an eclectic mix of brands and retailers to continue to dodge being compared to anyone else. I do, however, think it is absolutely ADORABLE to match the little ones; those little daughter/niece/goddaughter pairings of wearing identical items never gets old.

Nene Shoes is a brand that focuses on the “mini me” factor with styles that resonate with moms and daughters alike, and us aunts that take our roles very seriously can get in on the stylish fun too! My best friend Emily and her daughter Lily are now coordinated in their footwear (see above), and “Auntie J” had to of course also join in on the action (see below). The curated selections are stylish and practical for both girls and their busy adult components, and affordably priced since at least one pair of feet tend to grow very, very quickly. Matching shoes elevate any event to a special occasion, and this is one “twinning” exception I’ll gladly make!

Setting Bag Boundaries

In New York City, when your body functions basically as a car, using your own two feet to largely get you around, weaving in and out of human traffic and dodging any other obstacles in the way, carrying multiple bags is more of a hazard and less of a convenience. Especially on the subway when, at any point in time, you may be pressed against a minimum of four other humans, consolidating your stuff into one generously-sized bag is ideal.

In this week of extra chaos in the rush right before Christmas, I’ve been using the Dooney & Burke Newbury Suede Sloan Hobo bag in Brown, which neatly organizes and keeps secure my essentials, thanks to the its inside pockets, key hook, and zipper closure while channeling a slightly retro, ’70s vibe.  There’s also plenty of room for a few extras, such as my workout clothes, a water bottle, and even space left over to conceal a small gift.

I can’t really predict what the new year may have in store for me or what to expect in 2016, but I do know that I can rely on this bag to contain whatever I need to be prepared for it!

Collection Sneak Peak: Talbots for Holiday 2015

I know it’s hard to think about holiday already…but don’t you want a sneak peek at what’s to come, what to expect, and to start plotting out your shopping list? I know I sure do, even if some of those items on the list are suggestions…for myself! At Talbots for holiday 2015, you’ll find a nice array of cold weather essentials, like puffer vests, jackets, capes, and hats, along with some stylish enhancements that include tartan fabrications, sparkle, and fuzz. A pom pom adds some whimsy and femininity to an otherwise basic beanie, while belts, shoes, and bags get the sparkle treatment with heavily sequined iterations. Small gift items, such as slippers, scarves, key chains, and small leather good are available, but pajamas, jewelry, and shoes have all the makings of gifts well-received.

New from Talbots for the season will be some denim silhouettes so that you can master style and comfort in one fell swoop. Another great addition is the repetition of prints across dresses and skirts, translated into accessories like footwear and handbags.  Matching up your look in this way will always add a sophisticated touch to whichever occasion you’re attending. Which piece is your favorite?  I have my eye on some of the necklaces…

[T by Talbots for fall 2015]

Clothing should be nothing if not versatile, and Talbots for the fall 2015 season definitely puts this notion in motion with highly functional pieces intended for layering and endless styling possibilities. Inspired by Ali MacGraw in “Love Story,” there’s certainly a ’70s refined finish to the pieces, which coincidentally was the hottest trend to appear on the fall 2015 runways. Subtle jewel tones surface on accessories, found in a malachite necklace and turquoise pumps, while comfort and practicality coincide with the on-trend options.

Besides dresses and separates that work well for the office, the brand’s newest addition, T by Talbots, offers athletic-inspired pieces that play nicely with weekend chores and errands, or any activity that calls for something a bit more on the stretchy side.  See the slideshow above for my favorites from the upcoming collection.
