Once August rolls around I start getting sad, and by September 1st, I am downright depressed that summer is pretty much over. By far my favorite season, I attempt to cram in as many outdoor activities as possible, including dining al fresco, heading to a bbq, pool and beach days, as well as walking in comfy sandals for hours, bicycle rides, and even kayaking on the Hudson River. Since it’s still July that means there’s time left to plan and take advantage of summer weather fun, so this week I got some great ideas and items to test out thanks to Robert Verdi’s Getaways event (you can watch the live Ustream of it here). He had some great items to share that are his favorite for summer and travel — from his favorites, I have pulled my favorites (which can also make great gifts for those with summer birthdays):
1) Lonely Planet’s New England Trips Book
2) Prime Retail Outlet Shopping (there’s tons of these – most likely one near where you live or will be vacationing along the East Coast)
3) Brooks Brothers Supima Cotton No-Iron Shirts
4) Flight 001 Spacepak Suitcase space reduction bags
5) Bright Lites Carry-on bags from Samsonite (cute colors, and you didn’t really want to pay extra to check your bag, did you?)
6) Red Envelope Tailgating Cooler & Grill Set (super compact, comes in a ‘duffel’ bag)
7) Le Tarte Swimwear Bikinis (super cute, fun prints, perfect coverage)
8) Last, but probably most important – don’t forget about protecting your skin with Neutrogena Healthy Defense Liquid Moisturizer with SPF 50

Dove Mist Event
I went to the Dove Go Fresh Mist event, and learned about how every Dove product is all about hydration and moisture, with the Mist line containing four scents: Revive, Burst, Energize, and Cool Moisture (and their corresponding deodorant/anti-perspirants as well.
Jane Iredale Event
I recently attended an intimate luncheon at Serafina to meet the lady behind the brand, Jane Iredale, and hear about the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation on five of its most popular products – Dream Tint<, LipDrink and Powder-Me SPF in Tanned and Translucent.

Summer Entertaining with Bacardi Cocktails & Robert Verdi Event
I recently added Bacardi‘s Summer Entertaining Event hosted by Robert Verdi at Luxe Labratory. He had some great tips to offer up, such as being more eco-friendly by using bamboo plates instead of plastic ones, using brown craft paper as a tablecloth, and making a marshmallow roasting station on a hibachi grill.

Holidays with expectations are always difficult. Take Christmas for example. Birthdays, New Years — they all get grouped into the ‘what should I get so and so, what should I wear, what are the plans, who’s driving’ etc. Sorry to say it, but the approaching Valentine’s Day is also one of those days chock full of expectations, regardless if you are single, or have a significant other. Valentine’s Day is tricky, because it is a sensitive celebration; it’s supposed to be so personal, which goes hand-in-hand with being thoughtful and to a certain extent, creative. This, I must admit that I enjoyed sitting back and letting Robert Verdi and the Accessories Council do the work for me! At his most recent ‘Tweet This’ event, Robert gave somme thoughtful date ideas and suggestions, while providing his product picks to boot. Some of my favorite Robert Verdi date suggestions were:
- $50 date idea (although I think this could definitely be way cheaper): Classic Date – dinner from the local pizzeria and the current chick flick. (Fashion Pulse Daily’s thoughts: this works for those of use dateless on February 14th too!)
- Place a single piece of chocolate in all of her usual places in the morning of Valentine’s to make her ordinary moments special – by her jewelry on the dresser, inside the medicine cabinet, and next to her coffee cup in the kitchen (FPD’s thoughts: I think this could work with other things than chocolate; a simple note that says ‘I love you’ will also suffice!)
- Invite your date over for a pre-dinner drink but instead of going out, surprise them with their favorite meal by candle-light in an unusual part of your home – coffee table, terrace, or even the bedroom (FPD thoughts: candle lit dinners will never by overrated in our book, plus what a fun idea to eat in an ‘abnormal place’; just make sure you have a tray to bus the dishes and leftovers out of there)
Some of Robert’s gift suggestions included: watches for him and her, Rebecca Cole Grows blooms (very cool, see pic), Godiva chocolate, Swarovski Crystallized Charm Bracelet (FPD will be giving one away!), a Cole Haan patent leather jewelry case, and my personal favorite, Diane von Furstenberg cat eye sunglasses.
With these accessories and Robert’s tips, you’re sure to definitely set the bar high, but after all, who really needs expectations anyways?
