Not growing up in NYC, I was curious as to what a high school for the arts, in particular, fashion, might be like. Although I can’t turn back time and attend (and even if I could, I’m not sure if I’d want to my teens again), I was able to go to The High School of Fashion Industries Fashion Show and Salute to Isabel & Ruben Toledo. The Toledos were so humble and thrilled to be the recipients of the salute this year, and as an extra bonus, Ruben Toledo’s artwork will be auctioned off (seen above and below) to benefit the High School for Fashion Industries at CharityBuzz.com through June 15th.
The students’ work was framed under the theme “Continental Couture,” with categories including British Invasion, Euro Military, Asian Elegance, and GaGa International. It is so impressive to consider that all of these students are at the oldest, 18 years old. What a feat!

Last week I previewed the Payless offerings for the upcoming season, and although I have to keep mum on the details for now, I can tell you that they are full steam ahead with their designer offerings for footwear, accessories and beauty.
For now, I can share with you my top picks for spring/summer 2011, which are just hitting stores now. Silvia Tcherassi makes her debut at Payless this season, along with new styles from old favorites so there’s no better time to get shopping (especially since BOGO is going on now through May 16th!).
Silvia Tcherassi for Payless Genova Elastic Strap Sandal, $69.99
Isabel Toledo for Payless Vespadrille Wedge, $59.99
Lela Rose for Payless Loreto Wedge, $49.99
Isabel Toledo for Payless Board-Walk Ballerina Flat, $39.99
Fioni Mandy Gladiator Flat, $26.99

Finally, the Isabel Toledo for Payless collection has arrived! Below are my favorites from the collection – I think the Toreador Pump is by far my number one pick – just gorgeous! If you’re not familiar with Ms. Toledo’s work, she is a revered, iconic designer who has already had museum retrospectives and considered a fashion industry insider’s favorite. Below is a picture of her with artist/illustrator husband Rueben at the launch of the Payless collection in Paris at Colette (which is carrying exclusive colors and styles). Shop now online for the collection, or wait until September 7th when it arrives in select stores nationwide

A project that launched yesterday in NYC’s Garment District, the The Fashion Center Sideawalk Catwalk involves 32 designers who custom-designer Ralph Pucci mannequins as part of a public-art installation put together by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District. Designers participating include Isabel Toledo, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Rebecca Taylor, Donna Karan, Betsey Johnson, and many more. After the installation closes on September 3rd, the mannequins will be auctioned off and proceeds will benefit Materials for the Arts.
