Get dressed, layer up, and then do it all over again. That’s how Rebecca Taylor did it, and it was spot on chic. Pleated blouses were paired with onyx shearling hooded vests, herringbone coats covered leather bomber jackets, fringe sweaters fell over printed dresses…and it all looked flawless. The “wow-factor” came in via glitter, beads, velvet and leather pieced or charcoal nail head leggings. We will fantasize about those leggings until they’re in our closet, and then we’ll rock them, Rebecca Taylor style, with mini skirts and dresses on top. Beyond fashion, let’s just say we’ll all be imitating that undone beautiful fishtail braid the models rocked hard.

Rebecca Minkoff
I’m obsessed with Rebecca Minkoff’s inspiration—a girl with moxie—but the obsession doesn’t stop there. How about the way she knows just how to glorify the modern woman by empowering her independence? Represented through bold jewel tones and menswear inspired pieces, Minkoff paired courageous ancestral prints and brocade touches to create confident looks. The pants and trousers were utterly to die for, as were the jackets and coats. Blanket coats, lamb bombers, overcoats and tweeds will be topping everyone’s lists for Fall 2012.

If you are scoffing and thinking “as if we don’t have enough TV shows about fashion already!”, let me first ask you this: ever wondered what happened during the last 24 hours leading up to the fashion shows each season? Panic and chaos, maybe? Any last-minute touch-ups or complete reworkings? Or, have you ever wondered what fashion designers are really like? There might already be documentaries about Valentino, March Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, and Isaac Mizrahi, but what about the industry’s newer faces – Jeremy Scott? Alexander Wang?
I don’t know about you, but I’m answering all those questions with a definite “yes”. Thanks to a new TV series from the Sundance Channel’s Full Frontal Fashion, we will get to take a closer look at the realities of the industry masked by highly dramatized reality shows, as well as the personalities that have hatched our favorite collections for the upcoming season. “The Day Before”, Sundance’s original four-part series, documents the intriguing final 36 hours before the runway shows of Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Jeremy Scott, and Narciso Rodriguez in New York, Peter Copping for Nina Ricci in Paris, and Donatella Versace for Versace in Milan. On the show’s website, the esteemed director, Loic Prigent, revealed just enough to make us thirst for more: “We explored the energy of New York with young labels like Alexander Wang, grandes dames like Diane von Furstenberg, energy and humor with Jeremy Scott, and couturelike precision with Narciso Rodriguez. In Paris, you see the sweetness and romanticism of Nina Ricci, and the extreme everything of Donatella Versace in Milan.”
“The Day Before” will premiere at 10 pm on September 8th. New 30-minute episodes will air each night at 10 pm through September 13. Mark this on your calendar and don’t forget to take over the remote on September 8, and of course watch Sundance’s other Full Frontal Fashion offerings in the meantine!
