A consistent go-to for nearly every spring/summer collection is the bohemian look, and this season has not strayed away from that one bit. Bohemian prints were a staple on many runways this New York Fashion Week, fitting in perfectly with the loose-fitting, laid-back silhouettes that almost every designer turned to for their most recent lineup. In Nicholas K‘s safari and desert-inspired show, the design duo used geometric patterns on flowing garments in neutral earth tones, all of which contributed to the relaxed mood of the collection as a whole. Jill Stuart, who one can usually turn to to find edgier and more dramatic pieces, chose to incorporate boho floral prints on lengthier dresses, channeling a different yet still feminine look than is usually found on her runway.
Rebecca Minkoff‘s collection(separate from her “see-now, buy-now collection she also presented) featured an abundance of day-to-night pieces, including an almost-sheer floral tiered hem dress, ideal for her target market of young shoppers In Naeem Kahn‘s latest Spring/Summer lineup, he included romantic bohemian embroidery on a few of his pieces, which quickly became a highlight of his show this season. Thom Browne’s expectedly elaborate runway show featured bohemian looks mainly in terms of his completely pastel, relaxed color palette, complete with pastel blue lipstick. His dresses clearly combined fashion with art, as the prints were made to give the illusion of tailoring, while actually just being a part of the dress itself.

One of the more prominent trends at this seasons New York Fashion Week is the completely monochromatic look. An outfit composed of a singular color can effortlessly pull a look together, and can be tweaked to fit within any season, time, or temperature. As this trend seems to consistently be a favorite this season, designers producing this look for their Spring/Summer 2017 collections put their own new spin on a not-so-new idea. Nicholas K drew inspiration from the desert and a wide range of earth tones, showcasing monochromatic looks in loose fitting, flowing silk fabrics.
Telfar used daring, bright tones, which were inspired by paint chips found at Home Depot and classic “Old Navy” color palettes. Many of the looks, including one shown above, were even paired with a matching bag of the same color. Marcel Ostertag‘s most recent collection featured many all-white looks, which can easily be grouped into ultra-feminine, bohemian style.

We’re now midway through London Fashion Week, and most designers are keeping it autumn-classic in the accessories department, with a color palette full of earthy blues, greens, and khakis, and the easily visible abundance of leather, python, and crocodile accents. Anya Hindmarch channeled the Eighties with her Pac-Man inspired collection, filled with bags of all types- from clutches to backpacks. Most were made in leather, crocodile, and snakeskin materials in camel, grey, and deep burgundy hues, each detailed with repeating star or square patterns perfectly fitting in with her video game themed runway. Burberry incorporated mostly compact, handheld bags with a thick, belt-like strap, and using very similar materials. Each piece featured a variety of color, most containing shades of brown, olive green, and yellow. Straps were finished with oversized buckles and metal embellishments, coinciding with a very military influenced collection.
Mulberry‘s Johnny Coca aimed to show looks depicting women that he had seen on the streets on London. The brand’s biggest money-maker, their bags, were truly a staple in the show. They were structured, with color blocking detail, chain and leather straps, and tones of green, navy, and beige python. Vivienne Westwood Red Label fits well into this group, inspired by Renaissance artists Donatello and El Greco, and also showing structured bags in beige and deep blue. Personally, fall is my favorite season and nothing gets me more excited than the fashion that comes along with the change of weather! It feels as though the seasons change with a blink of the eye, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw away last year’s clothes! Stay chic by dusting off last year’s digs and adding a few more fall essentials.
From fall 2010, you can wear again:
Fur/Faux Fur Vests
Layer your look with a fur/faux fur vest to keep you warm when it starts to get chilly out. Pair your vest with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans. Add a chunky heel for a stylish addition to polish off your look
Over-the-knee Boots
The over-the-knee boots trend continues to stay strong, as this style is here to stay throughout fall and winter. Boots add a glamorous rock ‘n roll feel to any ensemble this season and keeps your little feet warm at the same time.
This season, don’t forget to add a few more additions to your closet!
Crimson
The runways and red carpets have been packed full with a bold and beautiful color; crimson. Wear a crimson dress, jacket, blouse, or a handbag to add a pop of color. The sexy hue really adds excitement to your every day outfits.
Mixed Prints
Mixing prints can be tricky, but just have fun with it! Soft and bold prints complement well together this fall. Mix a light cotton printed tee with a chunky knit in earth tone colors and prints.
