I have a long history of being “matchy matchy,” but it usually comes in the form of monochromatic looks. When I came across this trapeze skirt, it was accidental that the print looked identical to my acid yellow tank that I’d been struggling with, trying to figure out what to perfectly pair it with all summer. Sometimes, you just have to have patience when it comes to style; it will evolve, give it time, and don’t let it feel so forced. It will all come together eventually, I promise!

What I Wore: NYFW Look 5
My version of attention-grabbing style has become more subtle over the years; it’s not longer about the entire look being over-the-top, but more of just one or two key pieces providing the “wow” factor. While out of reverence for professionalism and appropriateness, my wardrobe has certainly gotten more serious over the past six or so years, I can’t help but fall for those pieces every now and then that just feel so fashion, so exciting, and restore my sense of the power of great style.
After this trip to Japan, I believe that it’s definitely going to shift again; there’s no way that this incredibly fashionable place won’t be instrumental in influencing my looks and consideration of style going forward. I’ve been here a little over a week, and am already shifting the way I think about pairing silhouettes and balancing proportions.
Do you have an item or two in your closet that you feel this way about? For me, it’s definitely this skirt, and the shoes; they are far from the ordinary, and wouldn’t work in an every day scenario, but that’s what so special about them, making each time I wear them quite memorable.

Monochromatic New Mixes
I’ve always liked monochromatic looks; the difficulty and accomplishment in pairing tops and bottoms, particularly those of different brands, textures, and ages, together, and the overall sophistication of the look, which always reminds me of my time living in Italy and the nonchalance and effortlessness that Italian women seemed to possess when dressed mono chromatically. Knowing me, I ALWAYS have to provide for a pop of color somewhere, and love when I find a new color combination that just seems meant to be. I used to be obsessed with mint, but it seems that my color obsession has evolved into a more mature shade of olive. Green is my mom’s favorite color, so it makes sense that I gravitate toward it as well.
My pops of color are provided in a white handbag and lug sole of my shoes, a purple topper, but my newest and most noteworthy, in my opinion, is an orange-red lip hue I mixed together in order to just try something new. I’ve had the shades resting on my dresser, and thought that individually, they weren’t quite me, but together (orange first then red), they were just perfect. I love when those “aha!” moments happen, especially when they are very spur of the moment, like this one was.

Transitioning to Spring
Did we just get an inkling of an indication that spring may actually be dead set on arriving soon? As the slushy streets give way to a more watered down iteration, Puffy coats can be stashed, at least for the moment, and give way to more shapely outwear and adventurous footwear. For me, it’s all about my fitted, shrunken moto jacket, coupled with these awesome fur peep-toe booties, which are certainly a bit of an oxymoron (fur, sandals, wintertime…) but so utterly fantastic and fabulous, nonetheless. From the ankles up, I certainly look like I’m on my way to a day at the office, but one glance at these shoes prove that I’m actually enroute to a more extraordinary destination…
I’m Bahamas-bound at the end of the week, and can’t wait to feel the sun glaring down on me while my freshly pedicured toes wiggle freely with excitement! Don’t worry: plenty of SPF 50 and “pale girl essentials” like a wide brimmed hat and SPF clothing will be in tow too! In the meanwhile, I hope you enjoy my urban take on enjoying the 40 degree weather in New York City.
