The new, opulent Dolce & Gabbana color line is due in stores very soon, meanwhile Scarlette Johansson will appear in the collection’s debut advertising campaign, styled to envoke the quintessential sexpot Marilyn Monroe. Now, while I love Marilyn and think she is an incredibly beautiful woman, I’m getting a little tired of the constant Marilyn Monroe referencse in editorial spreads and ad campaigns. Why can’t Scarlett Johansson just be Scarlett Johansson? I think the thing that initially turned me off to this repetitive concept was the Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe photo spread for New York Magazine in February of 2008. I think this new color line looks fabulous and very Dolce & Gabbana, especially with the Mediteranean blue hues of shadow, but just question the ad direction — thoughts?
