Face it: we’re not royalty; we don’t live in a Jane Austen novel; and most of us are miles from being a socialite. But fret not — fashion always offers a consolation prize. For instance, this Framed Oval Ring, $5.80, might drop a few hints concerning your true identity. Consider its light green tone, almost a pale jade color — doesn’t that suggest a 500-year-old plus monarchy, or at least tea in a quaint, Italian coffee shop in midtown Manhattan? What about the ring’s marble-like reflective surface? Well, that certainly says something about your radiance. The slightly jagged, rhinestone-adorned frame certainly signals glamour, and of course, your natural charm speaks for itself.

Every week I am always surprised by the selection of posts we receive here at IFB. I think back to before I started my blog, the discrimination I felt working in retail and adoring fashion, because it was shallow and it wasn’t academic. Now I look at the community I am a part of and think– how could anyone accuse fashion enthusiasts of being shallow? Or fashion designers, lovers of style? Indeed, like any frowned upon medium or niche, fashion has brains; it has ingenuity, it has controversy, it has creativity, and it has depth.
This week I want to celebrate those putting fashion and intellect together, to show that there’s more than meets that glittering eye…
