NYFW: Our Favorite Uses of Color on the Spring 2012 Runway
It was hard to narrow it down to just a few, as throughout the week there were a lot of amazing color combination, delivered largely through color-blocking and prints. Here are the ones that stuck out in my mind, days after the show had ended.

Mara Hoffman
The engineered prints, shoes, and hair at the presentation transported all viewers to an amazingly stylish, far off civilization. Hoffman once again dolled out a strong, print-heavy collection that keeps her in the top ranking of our must-sees every season.
Chris Benz
Somehow, Benz managed to make acid yellow sequins look downtown cool, paired with hi-top sneakers (footwear by Alejandro Ingelmo) and “I just woke up” hair. Not afraid to use color, Benz is more and more moving into the ranks as a solid American designer, and fashion week favorite.

Tracy Reese
It’s easy to see why Tracy Reese has been such a popular choice of go-to femininity, celebrating the brand’s 10 year anniversary, down to the very day, this fashion week. She showed a well done, beautiful collection of softer pastels and prints, complete with a turn of the century rustic, ladylike vibe, due to the hair style and parasol accents.
Milly by Michelle Smith
Inspired by Sonia Delaunay and focusing on a Milly girl who is “more interested in her books than boys this season”, Michelle Smith used graphic zig-zag, geometric, and color patterns that reminded us how poppy and strong primary colors can be.
BCBG MAX AZRIA
Azria tells us that a story of mixed prints and color blocking will continue into spring 2012, adding in a mix of off the shoulder details and interesting slits and cut-aways.

While it’s a total bummer to say goodbye to summer, there’s still plenty of reason to celebrate the start of fall… when it comes to trends, that is! Now that the weather is starting to cool down, it’s time to embrace previously taboo textiles like wool – specifically tweed! Cropped tweed trousers may have been totally unwearable during the hotter summer months, but they could easily be your autumn go-to staple for making a chic statement at work that’s still comfortable and effortlessly cool. Pair with some chunky wedge booties for fall or your favorite printed flats, or elongate legs with some pointed toe pumps. These fresh-for-fall styles put a new spin on the traditionally “stuffy” material (so long to stiff jackets and suits!), but when wearing slouchier styles be sure to stay mindful of proportions by pairing with a more tailored or streamlined top to avoid looking sloppy!
