Social media can take lemons… and make lemonade. It’s true! For example, take the body-shaming quote found in O, The Oprah Magazine, that stated that someone can only wear a crop top only if they have a flat something. What?! My friend Tamar Anitai encouraged women to not be restricted by these fashion rules, be confident, own it, and #RocktheCrop.
The concept spread like wildfire, and soon, many women were taking to social media using the hashtag and posting pics of them wearing crop tops. Because of the mentality of these so called, “fashion rules,” I’ve only one crop top to my name, which I never ever wore, but strangely feel more at ease than ever with wearing the look now, thanks to #RocktheCrop. This particular crop top, which is at least 15 years old, has a very subtle peekaboo effect, but I find that it totally fits my aesthetic, and looks phenomenal with its matching skirt. Just to think, all of those years, it lay dormant in my drawer, because I didn’t feel confident enough to pull it off.
So I say to you, dear reader: It’s summer, it’s hot outside, and warm weather fashions are just such a joy…why don’t you rock the crop?

Last week was the first New York Fashion Week: Men’s, and I attended a select number of shows in order to check out what all of the excitement was about and gauge the direction of menswear for 2016! I saw a few of my favorites (Duckie Brown, Nautica, Timo Weiland), and wrote a trend wrap-up piece for “The Today Show,” which you can read, here!
I also wrote two other features that I’m proud of that I’d love for you to check out: 4 spots your sunscreen is missing (and how to protect them) and Throwback flats: 9 styles from the ’80s and ’90s to swoon over (again!)

Last, I’ve been pretty busy this week and next, so I apologize if the posting has been on the lighter side. I’m teaching a Fashion Blogging Bootcamp course as part of the Summer Fashion Lab LIM College in NYC! I’m thrilled to be back teaching this class for the third time, and I am so happy to be teaching a real-world, application-based class that I created and students can learn so much from, not to mention that the LIM staff and fellow professors are just so incredible to work with. Sensitive skin, why must you complicate things? My skin is sensitive, fair, and dry, so finding the right balance in these things can be rather tricky, to say the least. I recently tested the AVEENO Active Naturals Ultra-Calming Nourishing Night Cream, which provides soothing relief for dry, irritated skin thanks to its signature Active Naturals Oat, and the ingredient Feverfew, in the family of Chamomile, utilized for centuries for its skin calming properties (see here for a list of ingredients and their benefits). The formula is a fragrance free rich cream, easily blended into the face and neck, capable of getting the hydration balance back in one overnight use. Night time is the best time to repair the skin, as your skin is at rest and has time to peacefully recover, so this formulation via a night cream application makes a lot of sense. I enjoyed using it liberally, but not that much is necessary to achieve lasting effects.
AVEENO Active Naturals Ultra-Calming Nourishing Night Cream retails for about $17, and is available now at mass food, drug retailers nationwide.
