How To Do Daytime Sparkle (and That Means at the Office too!)
Sparkle, shine, and sequins are a hard sell for the daylight. There are many reasons why, but for example you are competing with the effervescent shine of the natural sunlight, and it might be assumed that you took the “walk of shame” this morning.
The best way to choose garments sequins, if your intention is to wear the item beyond a night out is to go for sequin accent details, such as at the neckline or shoulders, and to select a clean pattern design, such as a small geometric unit or in a single row. Also look for options that aren’t too arts and craf.ty or highly reflective; you wouldn’t want to get sequin glare reflecting off of your computer monitor and blinding a work colleague.
I wore “day sequins” to work this week, with my piece being a Sachin + Babi for Anksana dress with inserted sequin slits at the shoulder. The hue is slightly bronzed, and the overall aesthetic reminds me more of the chain mail underneath medieval armour than a night clubbing. The cut-out is kite-shaped and made up of dulled bronze sequins that nicely compliment the lightweight unfinished edges of the charcoal grey jersey.

Animals Come Alive in Jill Stuart’s Fall 2011 Collection
Jill Stuart achieves color-blocking in a remarkable way for her Fall 2011 collection. Stuart uses vibrant jewel tones, such as, teal, red, emerald, and amber, while combining a little sparkle in a pleated ensemble. A fairy tale came to life, as a literal animal theme decorated below-the-knee silk dresses with large printed owls and foxes. Complimenting the animal inspiration from Heidi Specker’s photos of the Black Forest in Germany, Stuart’s collection had “Bambi” deer furs, leather accents, and chunky knits that are perfect for the fall. Jill Stuart’s Fall 2011 collection is feminine, flirty, chic, and made for the fashion-forward woman.
