The Show: Costello Tagliapietra Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Show
The Theme: Fabulously Fitted Draped Dresses (A Costello Tagliapietra Signature)
The Color Palette: Two-toned air dyed garments in an array of corals, blues and greens
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Maybe I’m a sucker for a local homegrown Pennsylvania boy like Jeffrey Costello, or maybe they had me at the print boilersuit (romper), but the silhouettes that seemingly glide over a woman’s figure had me and the audience swooning.
Beautiful draping and the perfect amount of ruching detail on dresses waists, hips and derrieres showed the audience at Milk Studios that these pieces are flattering for any woman. Unique shapes and even more innovative prints dominated the catwalk and hugged the curves of even the slightest of women. Another collection of perfectly fitted garments by the perfect design duo that is Costello Tagliapietra.

The Show: Nicole Miller Spring 2013
The Theme: “Batteries Not Included” -a 1980s Redux
The Color Palette: black and white stripes, florals, inky blues
Best Standout Look/the Signature of the Collection: Nicole Miller may have looked to her very own archives for inspiration in this collection that gave an ode to the early 90s in print, silhouette, and styling, but felt fresh with cut to the body leathers, cropped tops, and fitted blazers.

The Show: Kaelen Spring 2013
The Theme: It’s so Easy
The Color Palette: Creams, blacks, beiges, acid yellow
Best Standout Look/the Signature of the Collection: Kaelen used silk and neoprene liked we’ve never seen before. The pieces, not intimidating and certainly salable, will be strong everyday wardrobe contenders for many women, come spring.

The Show: Chadwick Bell Spring 2013
The Theme: “Austerity and Adornment”
The Color Palette: Creams, blacks, beiges, green, rose
Best Standout Look/the Signature of the Collection: Conservative lengths and cuts make this collection ultimately easy to wear without pushing the trend envelope. This quarter-length sleeve, paneled dress is a piece that can be worn season after season.

The Show: Tadashi Shoji Spring 2013
The Theme: Getting Lacy
The Color Palette: Deep greens, blues, peach, with a hint of a jewel tone.
Best Standout Look/the Signature of the Collection: Shoji is certainly a master of eveningwear and executes it with aplomb, with this season being no exception. Floor length film lace dresses with a bit of kick at the hem are sure to be perfect red-carpet fodder come awards season.

The Show: Richard Chai Spring 2013
The Theme: Sophisticated Sport
The Color Palette: Creams, florals, brushed blues.
Best Standout Look/the Signature of the Collection: With bralette tops and sleeked back ponytails, this season played into Chai’s continuous theme of sportswear, which is now evolving for a more upscale client.
The Show: Monika Chiang 2013
The Theme: Sport & South Africa
The Color Palette:Mango, putty, black.
Best Standout Look/the Signature of the Collection: With inspiration taken from a trip to South Africa and athleticism, Chiang’s collection was an ode to perfect color use, with a monochromatic green look accompanied by a floor length knife pleated skirt a standout.

The Show: BCBGMAXAZRIA
The Theme: The New Femme Fatale
The Color Palette: Creams, blacks, vibrant peach
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Actual harnesses reigned supreme on the runway; no more where they just a pattern, but where actual, 3-D pieces found on the garments. The combination of filmy, transparent layers with the hardness of the harnesses was the mastery of the collection, although some wonderful pleating and prints also surfaced throughout.
Backstage Beauty: BCBGMAXAZRIA
The Theme: Kate Moss
The Keys: Laurent Phillipon for Bumble & Bumble, Val Garland for Temptu, Jan Arnold for CND
The Color Palette: Dark smokey eyes (sexy, late-night girl with lived-in makeup), a “virgin” nail (Pink Lily polish and Air Dry top coat), and volumized, fussed with hair.
The Execution: Manageable! A clean nail, smokey eye (or best if you do it the night before, and then sleep on it, and blow-dried, rollered, spritzed, and imperfect tresses.
