The Show: Mara Hoffman Spring 2013 Collection
The Theme: Palm leaves and bright prints complimented on-trend shapes found in New York designer Mara Hoffman’s pieces this season. Island music opened the show with ukeleles serenading the crowd and taking the crowd to a retro and elegant Hawaii. Pops of color via red jersey dresses and swimsuits transported the show from the muggy sidewalks of New York City to the sunny and peaceful beach shore.
The Color/Palette: Inspired by nature, world travel, and fantasy in paradise, expect a collection that mixes coral, navy prints, magenta, and turquoise.
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: While all 33 looks were fabulous and completely wearable, three gowns were the collection’s best: an Aloha stone cut out chiffon gown, a coral shields gown, and a turquoise shields gown.

The Show: Sally Lapointe Spring 2013
The Theme: “A secret hidden submarine base in Russia, unknown to the outside world. Carved into a mountain side, massive man-made concrete structures combine with the depth and fluidity of the sea. Nature and man, electricity and contrast between these opposite forces.”
The Color Palette: The color palette is extensive, yet coherent, featuring pieces in black, white and cream as well as rust camel and orange-yellow tie-dye.
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Lapointe’s designs harmonize with her use of clean lines, selective drapery and cutouts, while strong shoulders and A-line cuts accentuate the female form, creating the perfect balance between structure and fluidity.

The Show: ELLE Fashion Next Runway Show and Design Awards
The Theme: Emerging FIT designers inspired by New York City
The Color Palette: White, structured silhouettes, pale blues, lavender, and neutral tones.
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: With a medley of geometric tailored hemlines, sheer bodices, chunky knits, and mixed materials, it’s clear that the students of FIT are “still at a point in their lives when it’s just about the ideas – the inspiration,” as Elle Editor-in-Chief, Robbie Myers, puts it.

The Show: Mia Moretti x Pencey SS 2013
The Theme: Jazz Era The line is built on two 20th century female characters; the sophisticated Eva Peron, serving as a symbol of hope, beauty and female power, and Josephine Baker, the playful and fearless flirt who seeks to free women of imposing standards.
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: The 10-piece collection is a story of strong and beautiful women, embodying the feminine power of the two characters in the face and banana leaf print. The pieces are light and colorful, softening the masculine feel of dress shirts, pants and blazers without losing the associations of power.
