Make way for the 90s — the theme of essie‘s latest collection! The new six-piece lineup for fall taps into the best of the decade’s fashion, from its saccharine sweetness to edgy grunge nature that works as well now as it did then. The colors are all named after 90s pop culture references, including (pictured, from left to right ) mixtaupe, dressed to the nineties, saved by the belle, as if!, knee-high life, and girly grunge. Pick up your favorites from the collection (mine is as if!), for $9 each at essie.com, fine salons and beauty destinations nationwide.
p.s. – essie’s gel couture gala collection is here! 12 new formal-occasion perfect shades ranging from pearlescent gold to fiery orange red are now available for $11.50 each.

Isn’t it funny when the little things can truly make a big difference? Take for example, face cleanser: the ritual, experience, and results can mean different things to different people. For me, it has been traditionally been my least favorite step in my skincare regime, even though a recently washed face is a revitalizing sensation unlike any other. I think that I haven’t enjoyed it as much a I could is due in part to using cleansers in the past that weren’t optimal for my skin, and the feeling that I need to rush through this step to spend more time on the toning, serum, and cream stages.

With being out in the summer more than ever this season, it’s become evident that not all sunscreens are created equal. I’ve also come to realize that how my skin reacts, especially my face, to sunscreen must be taken into consideration when selecting not just the proper SPF number but also when looking for products that won’t disrupt the delicate balance of clear, moisturized skin that I’ve worked so hard to achieve. Choosing a formulation for my face from a well-established skincare brand just seems to make a lot of sense, so I recently starting using the CeraVe Face Lotion SPF 30 when I head for the shore on the weekends. The benefits of this product are many; it’s lightweight, oil-free, and non-comedogenic so it won’t clog pores on my precious face, but also replenishes ceramides, which are responsible for keeping the skin well-hydrated.
The controlled-release technology distributes the ceramides which keep dryness at bay while the surface effects of the InvisibleZinc™ Technology, allows for ease of spreadable application and easily and dries down with minimal evidence of the zinc ingredient. And lest I forget, it’s also water resistant for up to 40 minutes. I’ve been using both the face and body lotion versions, and at a handy 2.5 and 3 oz size respectively, they are perfect to stash in your carry-on liquids quart bag or slip inside a beach bag or handbag for on-the-go reapplication. The CeraVe Body Lotion SPF 30 or 50 is available for about $13.50, while the CeraVe Body Lotion SPF 30 or 50 is about $11.50 at mass food and drug stores nationwide.
