Sarah Hyland at the 2016 Oscars
We’re now entering that tricky transition period from winter to spring, a time that can be extremely difficult not only in terms of clothing, but beauty as well. Fresh out of a season packed with bulky knit sweaters and long pants, your skin is probably paler than you’d like it to be during this time of year. Luckily, there is a simple solution to this beauty dilemma:
self tanner. This can be an intimidating product for many people, so I got some expert tips from makeup artist Allan Avendeno, who recently did actress’s Sarah Hyland’s beauty look for the Oscars using tanning products from Vita Liberata.
Q: What was the inspiration behind this look?
A: Sarah’s silver gown was definitely a factor in making her skin perfectly bronze and glowing. It was a nice contrast between the silver on her body and the golden hue on her skin (achieved with Vita Liberata Marula Oil Self Tanner).
Q: What are 3 do’s and 3 dont’s of self tanning?
A: – DO shower and exfoliate before self tanning.
– DON’T moisturize before self tanning.
– DO use a mitt to apply the self tanner for no streaks.
– DON’T use your hands to apply the product. You will more than likely leave streaks, and you can’t apply the product fast enough all over your body before it stains your hands. A big mess!
– DO use proper moisturizers that don’t break down the tan, but actually prolong your color (like Vita Liberata Moisture Boost Body Treatment).
– DONT use products like baby oil or lotions with greasiness because your color will disappear fast!
Q: Is there a specific skin care routine you should go through while wearing self tanner?
A: Avoid using scrubs and shower oils. After showering, hydrate your skin, but with the proper moisturizers that don’t strip the tanner.
Q: What are the best makeup products to use to compliment a tanned look?
A: With a tan complexion, a beautiful peach or coral blush and a peach stain or lip balm will give you a perfect, healthy glow!

Ted Baker recently launched its new Spring/Summer 2016 collection, complete with fresh, sunny prints and ultra feminine silhouettes. Included are many new takes on spring florals, a staple of the brand, with many of the pieces carrying a lightweight and airy feel, almost giving the impression of a watercolor painting (see the Bathany Hanging Gardens Bodycon Dress, $295). More formal and sophisticated styles are also incorporated into the collection, found in the expertly-tailored jackets and delicately embroidered midi dresses. With a color palette of neutral tones and soft pastels, there’s a piece for everyone for virtually any occasion, day or night. Other seasonal staples include the Braylee Burnout Cropped Jumpsuit ($349), the Eiraat Textured Skinny Pants, and the Madey Double Breasted Trench Coat ($465).
Pops of brighter colors appear in the swimwear, which includes pieces in navy stripes and vibrant coral detailing (see the Cirana Striped Twist Bandeau Swimsuit, $129). In the accessories department, both leather loafers and printed strappy sandals make an impression, as well as handbags adorned with checker and flowered prints. Click through the slideshow to view FPD’s favorites from the Ted Baker for women collection. Prices range from $59-$1200, encompassing both clothing and accessories. NYX Cosmetics (pronounced “nicks”) recently held the grand opening for its first ever East Coast location in Willowbrook, New Jersey, part of the brand’s expansion plans with 20 more openings planned in 2016. NYX hopes to become a staple in every woman’s makeup collection, which no becomes a breeze thanks to products that are both affordable and versatile, covering all the bases from face, eye, and lip products to nail and body additions to round out your beauty look.
Be sure to check out the brand’s signature Butter Lipstick, ($6) which comes in over 30 colors, and feels exactly as it sounds; like a satin texture that glides on like butter. It’s a nice change from a wide swath lipsticks some even quadruple that price, that only seem to cause dryness and lack proper hydration. Another NYX star product is the Wonder Stick, ($12) which allows any level of makeup application expertise to achieve the perfect conceal/contour/highlight combo with ease (much easier to use than powder!). Other favorites include the Makeup Setting Spray in Matte or Dewy ($8), and the Eyebrow Gel ($7).
NYX Cosmetics products can always be purchased online, and stay on the look out for a location opening up by you!

Recently Lanvin unveiled its newest and arguably best yet fragrance, Éclat de Fleurs, which epitomizes femininity with both floral and fruity notes. FPD took in the featured and most prominent scent elements at the launch event last week, which include pear, a bouquet of flowers, white musk, and sandalwood. This fragrance follows the 2002 release of Eclat de Arpège, inspire by the bond between house founder Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter.
This previous fragrance was used as further inspiration for Éclat de Fleurs, which is described by the brand as “feminine, fresh, and spontaneous, that gives off both lightness and joy.” The aim is to give the impression of a sunny spring afternoon, which it certainly does, in full sensory aromas. The bottle features a carved out flower, resembling the marguerite, which is also the name of Jeanne Lanvin’s daughter. The fragrance is priced at $82 for the 1.7 oz. size, and $105 for the 3.3 oz., and is available now exclusively at Nordstrom.
