Flutter Into Spring with Butterfly Flower
I’ll just go ahead and say it: I love perfume. I’m not really sure when or how the obsession started, but I think I can trace it back to my Mother; I remember that she devoured bottles of Calvin Klein Eternity in the 80s, moving onto Emporio Armani, Burberry, and then even more expensive taste (Bond No 7, of course!). My Mother would never go out without splashing herself with a healthy dose of perfume at least two times, and the scent of Eternity still brings back fond memories of my youth. So somewhere along the way, I ditched my tomboy ways, started wearing jeans where you could actually see my legs, and developed my own scented preferences.
As of late, I’ve been into vintage scents and musks, counting Tuberose and Bergamot amongst the key ingredients. Even though that wiley little groundog, Punxsutawney Phil, indicated there will be six more weeks of winter (technically now down to two weeks to go!), I think it’s time to forget about the woes of winter and focus on way to rejuvenate and uplift our spirits for spring. New perfume, anyone?
I recently tried Butterfly Flower, a new scent from Bath & Body Works, and thought that it is just what is needed to set a new tone for the season. It’s an overtly feminine scent, with notes of black tea, tangerine, French mimosa, and creamy coconut milk to name a few, but isn’t overly flowery and delicate either. It does have some musk in it, which makes it a nice transition from heavier, “wintery” scents. Although it officially launches in-stores March 16th, you can currently order it online, with the 2.5 oz eau de toilette coming in at a very reasonable $29.50. Another great aspect of Butterfly Flower is that you can get it in a solid perfume form ($19.50), for touch-ups throughout the day. Thank goodness for Bath & Body Works — otherwise I would be spending a fortune on fragrance!

Colors for Fall 2009 Fashion
What are the “it” shades for fall 2009? According to Pantone and WWD, they are way more muted tones than what we’ve seen in the past. There was definitely a heavy dose of black in many collections, however most striking were the more vibrant colors used. What stood out most to me was the “warm olive”, “burnt Sienna”, and “purple heart” shades. I’m glad purple is still around, as I made an investment in some purple pieces this season, and gravitate toward the yellowish green shade that has an almost neon quality to it. Usually though, when there are times of economic difficulty and poltical change, people tend to seek out very bright hues to offset the dark, sobering environment. So far fall 2009 seems to be a different animal. Good thing? Let’s hope so!
