The Show: Tia Cibani
The Theme: A clash of masculine and feminine draping
The Inspiration: Man Ray surreal 1920s photography
The Color Palette: Neutral colors such as black, white, grey, and metallics
The Signature, Standout Look: Aside from neutrals, we saw a pop of color with some pink and floral designs, as well as numerous shades of tan and green. The models walked through a sheer geometric archway, where the structure was covered with abstract geometric shapes. The collection as a whole is a well-balanced combination of feminine flow, with pleated skirts and two-tiered dresses to the knee, and masculine tailoring, accompanied by suit jackets and dress pants. The signature look of many of these pieces overall was monochromatic dressing, however the looks were offset by using various shades and signature patterning.

The Show: Gilded Age Men’s Presntation
The Theme: Rebellious and Youthful
The Inspiration: Many pieces of this collection were drawn from the depiction of the “future” from movies and books of the 70s and 80s.
The Signature, Standout Look: All the garments of the collection were layered, with just the right amount of oversize, to give it an urban and subversive feel. The collection was definitely vintage; reminiscent of the memorable days of the 80s, however Gilded Age put a spin on new wave and grunge by incorporating variousretro textures, fabrics, and colors into the looks. Denim is by far the standout piece of the collection, where we will see denim in various hues such as anthracite, deep burgundy, and jade.

The Show: Lisa Perry Fall/Winter 2013
The Theme: Nostalgic style with modern applications
The Color Palette: Black and white; blue and black; and pink, purple, and blue are the primary color combinations.
The Inspiration: The geometric shapes, hypnotizing swirls, poka-dots and of course the iconic oversized dot is inspired by Perry’s love for everything ’60s, however, this upcoming collection, “mazes, twists, & doodles,” is also inspired by the doodles of Perry herself.
The vibrancy of this collection is expressed even before entering the shop, with a model posing as a mannequin in the front window of the Lisa Perry Madison Avenue store. Both the dresses and skirts are sculpted to have a structured look, while keeping with a modern feminine flare. What is truly lovely about the collection is its wearability factor and the reversible poka-dot to plaid jackets and dress that stole the show. All of these pieces can be worn for a fun, yet sophisticated, look while being transformed into a night piece.
P.S.–The makeup worn by the models mimicked the ’60s signature bold eye. The makeup was created by Gucci Westman, the Global Artistic Director for Revlon, and used: Revlon ColorStay 16H Eyeshadow Quad in Free Spirit from The Spring/Summer ’13 Collection by Gucci Westman, $7.49 (available April 2013) and Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in Blackest Black, $8.99

Dressed to the nines and ready to learn, network, and indulge in sponsored services such as hair and makeup, the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference had all of the elements in place for a memorable and meaningful event. We summarized some of the most important tidbits of info to come out of the conference, so that newbies and seasoned bloggers alike can consider some new pointers to boost the business of blogging.
Content is EVERYTHING This point holds true whether are you just beginning your blogging career or you have been writing a blog for a few years now. During the panel, “Business in the First Year of Blogging,” the main focus was to understand why content trumps everything else on your blog, and the answer is quite simple. Your ideas, thoughts, and opinions is all you have to establish an authoritative voice, while gaining loyal readers who value your opinion. You want your readers to keep coming to your site and see what you have to say on a certain topic or issue. BUT another important thing that was stressed is to always be true to your opinions. Don’t just say something because you think this will be what your readers will want to hear.

Be Selective with Affiliate Brands You always want to think about your audience when it comes time to working with affiliate marketers for your blog. Stick to working with brands that highlight the style and voice of your blog. Your readers are your first priority and want to work with brands that have something to contribute for conversations between you and the reader. As it was said at the conference, you are allowed to say “no” to brands that don’t fit.
