Sunday in the Park

julia dinardo fashion pulse daily -2

In all my years of living in NYC (15!) I really haven’t spent any time in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I’ve done things on the periphery of it, like go to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Brooklyn Museum of Art, but somehow hadn’t managed to spend any time in it until my best friend came a few weeks ago to run the Brooklyn half marathon, which goes right through the body of the park. This weekend, Fashion Pulse hubby and I returned for a leisurely stroll, and appreciated the size of it, both large and intimate, and the slight familiarity; it was designed by the same landscape architects that did Central Park, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.

We took pause by the baseball fields and took these photos near there, listening to the chants and occasional crack of the bat making contact with the ball sound. The special part of this look is that that I’m wearing shoes that I had worn to my rehearsal dinner; who says you can’t wear wedding-related garments and accessories again?

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month: Are You Properly Slathering Up for Summer?

SPF natural sunscreen 2015May is Skin Cancer Awareness month, a time to detect, prevent, and protect your skin as much as possible! It’s a great time to think about the state of your skin and how to take care of it going forward, as May kicks off the warmer, more carefree weather. With  outdoor activities and fun can come increased sun exposure, and this week in NYC already saw temperatures in the mid 80s. By now stores are fully stocked with SPF offerings, which means its a great time to find your go-tos and have them at-the-ready for the warmer days ahead. I’ve found that I feel most comfortable using sunscreen with more natural formulations,  and am more inclined to use them when the bottle easily fits into my handbag, or is a  spray that quickly canvases legs and backs with protection.

As an ultra-pale and freckly human, I’ve tested out a lot of sunscreen, and by a lot, I actually mean a TON of the stuff! Some of my favorites for the 2015 summer season include Block Island Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, Kiss My Face Cool Sport Mineral SPF 30 Lotion Continuous Spray SunscreenAveeno Protect + Hydrate Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Lotion Suncreen for the Face, and MyChelle SunShield Coconut SPF 28. Do you have a natural sunscreen that you love?

The Cambridge Satchel Company x Vivienne Westwood Collection – Coming This July!

VW x CSC

Once again, The Cambridge Satchel Company and Vivienne Westwood have teamed up to bring a trio limited edition of bags, available for the fall/winter season starting July 7th, 2015. The three styles, “the tiny” ($180 ), “the  classic 14”” satchel ($335 ), and “the music bag” ($380), are unisex and feature a design inspired by Westwood’s iconic boots from her 1981 “Pirate” collection. To make the bags’ story even more unique, the squiggle print found on them (screen printed directly on to the leather) was done by the same British printer who has been producing Westwood’s Pirate Boots for over 30 years.

If you’re not familiar with the brand The Cambridge Satchel Company, it started in 2008 by a mom and daughter duo, with bags that are handmade in the UK and feature the finest materials and craftsmanship. Vivienne Westwood as a woman and a brand has forged a distinct, thought-provoking career in fashion that has spanned five decades and today is a recognized and independent global brand.

If you love these bags as much as I do, you may want to pick one up at its select retailers: exclusively at Vivienne Westwood standalone boutiques, The Cambridge Satchel Company stores, and online at www.CambridgeSatchel.com.
